None of the last 6 ODIs played here have seen more than 15 wickets fall. As both, India and New Zealand have a strong line-up, we expect that trend to continue.
Tom Latham is the leading run-scorer of this tournament and has scored a century and a half-century in his last two outings. He has an average of 47.67 against India and we are backing him to continue batting well.
With both teams already having qualified for the semifinals, New Zealand and India will face off to decide their place on the points table as they face off on Sunday at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
The two teams have faced each other in 118 matches to date. India is the dominant team with 60 wins compared to 50 for New Zealand. 7 games ended without any result while one was tied.
This match can be watched live on the JioHotstar App and Star Sports Network.
New Zealand has been clinical in its performance during the first two games and has hardly broken a sweat as they defeated Pakistan and Bangladesh to seal a spot in the semifinals. However, they will not be complacent against India and will play with the same intensity in this match as well.
New Zealand has put up an all-round performance, doing well with both, the bat and the ball. While Kane Williamson has suffered a rare double failure, the other batsmen have stepped up and filled in, helping the team put in match-winning scores.
Tom Latham has been the most impressive, scoring a century and a half-century in his two outings, and is the leading run-scorer of the tournament. Rachin Ravindra looked in fine form as he scored a century in the match against Bangladesh, while Will Young and Glenn Phillips have chipped in with valuable knocks as well.
However, the team will expect Devon Conway and Williamson to get some runs before the knockout stages.
The bowling has been brilliant as well. William O’Rourke and Michael Bracewell are among the leading wicket-takers for the tournament, picking up 5 wickets each. Along with Matthew Henry, Mitchell Santner, and Kyle Jamieson, they make up a well-balanced bowling attack.
New Zealand has a team that is very flexible and can adapt to different conditions. We think Mitch Santner might be one of the key bowlers in this match against India. His match-up against the likes of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Shubman Gill is going to be crucial.
India started the tournament as one of the favorites to win and they haven’t disappointed the fans so far. With consecutive wins, they became the first team to book a place in the semifinals.
Shubman Gill has been excellent at the top of the order, patiently building his innings, and is the perfect partner for Rohit Sharma. The latter has shown some flair but has yet to make a meaningful contribution. However, the biggest delight for the fans is the performance of Virat Kohli, who slammed a brilliant century on Sunday against Pakistan.
His coming back to form will be a big plus for India.
With Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, and Ravindra Jadeja all coming in lower down the order, there is no dearth of batting depth in the Indian team. There is a slight concern over the fitness of Rohit Sharma but with a long gap between matches, he is expected to be ready for this upcoming game.
The presence of 3 genuine all-rounders gives India plenty of flexibility as they have gone in with only two specialist seamers and have reaped the benefits. Overall, the team seems to have settled in a good rhythm.
India has not been tested so far but NZ will be tougher than anything they have faced so far. Shreyas Iyer has been absolutely critical in the middle order and we think he will be very important to try and counter the New Zealand spinners.
Also, you can expect a promotion for Axar Patel up the order if Mitch Santner or Rachin Racindra come into the attack early.
8 of the last 10 matches played here have been won while chasing. In 6 of the last 10 matches, the team winning the toss has opted to field first and we are expecting the same trend to continue.
The pitch in Dubai is well-balanced and isn’t the easiest to bat on. The seamers can expect some help with the new ball and it swings quite a bit. Once the ball gets a bit old, it does get slightly easier to bat but the batsmen will have to pace their innings, waiting for loose deliveries. A score of around 280 can be considered competitive at this venue.
The weather will be clear and sunny with temperatures between 20 and 25 degrees.
Both the teams have played well to book a spot in the semifinals. While the result of this match will not have much bearing on the team’s prospects, they will still play with the same intensity and we can expect a good contest between them. We feel that India has an edge as they have a good understanding of the playing conditions. Their spinners are going to be very hard for the New Zealand batters to counter.
Bet on India to win.
