The bowlers will get plenty of help at The Gabba provided they bowl a good line and length. 3 of the last 4 BBL matches played here have seen at least 14 wickets fall and we are expecting that trend to continue.
Vince is in good form this year and has scored at least 40 runs in 2 of his 3 innings so far. He has an average of 32.12 in his BBL career and has scored 250 runs against Brisbane at an average of 31.25.
The Sydney Sixers will look to extend their dominance at the top of the points table as they take on Brisbane Heat this weekend. The match will be played on Sunday at The Gabba.
The two teams have faced each other in 21 matches. The Sixers have won 14 while Brisbane won 7.
This match will be live-streamed on the Disney+ Hotstar App. One can also watch it live on the Star Sports Network.
Brisbane Heat started its campaign on a high, winning the first two matches of the season. However, the team is coming into this match on the back of a loss against the Perth Scorchers.
Brisbane Heat boasts of a strong batting line-up that is headlined by Tom Banton and Jimmy Peirson. The duo will hope to give the team a strong start here. They will be followed by Colin Munro, Max Bryant, and Matthew Renshaw, all of whom are in good form and can play some big shots. Brisbane also has a few capable all-rounders like Nathan McSweeney and Paul Walter.
The latter hasn’t been able to emulate his form from the last season. Brisbane’s bowling has been bolstered with the return of Spencer Johnson. Johnson picked up 4 wickets on Thursday and looks in excellent form.
He will be joined by Xavier Bartlett in the pace department while Mitchell Swepson and Matthew Kuhnemann will continue to play as the two slower bowlers.
The Sixers have been clinical so far and are the only team that are undefeated this season. Their latest win came against the Melbourne Stars on Boxing Day.
James Vince was at his fluent best in the previous game as he scored a brilliant century and helped his team chase down a mammoth target with relative ease. He will once again open the batting alongside Josh Philippe.
Jordan Silk, Moises Henriques, and Jack Edwards have played well in the middle order and there is no dearth of talent in the Sixers’ batting unit.
The pace unit led by Ben Dwarshuis has bowled well. Dwarshuis is the leading wicket-taker for the team with 6 wickets, while Jackson Bird and Hayden Kerr have picked up 5 wickets between them.
The two spinners, Akeal Hosein and Todd Murphy have also picked up 5 wickets among themselves.
The team winning the toss will likely opt to bowl first.
The pitch at The Gabba is balanced and offers a good contest between the bat and the ball. The surface offers plenty of bounce and pace, and the new-ball bowlers will enjoy bowling here. As the ball gets softer, it does get better to bat, but the batsmen will have to choose their shots wisely. Anything over 170 will be tricky to chase.
The weather will be cloudy and there may be some drizzling during the evening.
The Sixers and Heat are among the strongest teams this year and we are expecting an engaging contest. While there is little separating the two teams, we feel that the Sixers have a good momentum backing them and could win here. The better batting depth could end up being the difference in favor of the Sixers.
Bet on Sydney Sixers to win.
