The openers for the Melbourne Stars haven’t been consistent. In none of the last 5 matches have they been able to put up a partnership of 20 or more runs and they are unlikely to do so again.
Munro has averaged 7.33 in three matches this year, with a highest score of 9. However, he faces a strong bowling unit in Brisbane, so we reckon he will once again fail to get going.
The Melbourne Stars are fighting for survival as they take on the Brisbane Heat for a second time this season. The match will be played on Wednesday at The Gabba.
The two teams have played 20 matches. Brisbane has won 13, while the Melbourne Stars have won 7.
This match will be live-streamed on the Disney+ Hotstar App. One can also watch it live on the Star Sports Network.
The Brisbane Heat started well, winning their first two matches. However, their form has dipped in the last few days, and they are coming into this contest with consecutive losses.
While Jimmy Peirson has done a decent job at the top of the order, his partner, Tom Banton has struggled in the last two matches. Getting a strong start will be important for the hosts here.
Nathan McSweeney and Matthew Renshaw have played a couple of good knocks in the middle order but the others like Colin Munro, Max Bryant, and Paul Walter haven’t been in the best of forms.
While the bowling from Brisbane has been average, they have two quality seamers Spencer Johnson and Xavier Bartlett. Matthew Kuhnemann and Mitchell Swepson were very successful last year but are yet to make an impact this time around.
The Melbourne Stars will be very disappointed with their performance this season. With five losses in as many matches, they are played firmly at the bottom of the points table. Another loss here could significantly dent their qualification hopes.
Barring Ben Duckett, who has scored back-to-back half-centuries in his last two matches, the batting has been disappointing, to say the least. Glenn Maxwell is yet to fire up, while Sam Harper and Marcus Stoinis cannot convert their starts into big knocks.
The all-rounders like Hilton Cartwright and Jonathan Merlo are yet to make a meaningful contribution with the bat. The bowling has been mediocre as well.
Peter Siddle has picked up 5 wickets but has received little support from Joel Paris, Beau Webster, and Brody Couch. Usama Mir has bowled well in patches but has been very expensive.
The team winning the toss will likely opt to bowl first.
The pitch at Brisbane is usually good to bat on. The average first-inning score here is around 180. Batting under the lights is slightly easier and the team batting first will aim for the 200-run mark. That said, the quicker bowlers will get some help here provided they bowl a good line and length.
The weather will remain overcast and we can expect interruptions due to rain.
The Stars have struggled throughout this season and lost a match against Brisbane last week. Seeing their recent form, we feel that the visitors will find it difficult to bounce back.
Bet on the Brisbane Heat to win.
