The Bangladeshi openers faced five out of six balls in their first innings as dot balls. The West Indians faced a maiden over in their first over. This would be a highly likely bet.
The home side bowled tight lines and lengths to Bangladesh in the first Test to put them under early pressure in the Test. Kemar Roach only conceded a single run on the first ball of the first over of Bangladesh’s first innings of the opening Test before compiling five straight dot balls.
The West Indies have shown their ability to do the job at home. They put in a complete team performance in the first Test to demolish their Asian tourists by more than 200 runs. Impressively, the batters put up a score over 400 runs and claimed 19 of the 20 wickets required in the match. Bangladesh has a tough task ahead of it.
The West Indies have been phenomenal at home this Test series. Overall, in the last five Tests between them and Bangladesh, history is rather one-sided with the West Indies having won five from five. They were also destructive in the previous Test.
West Indies and Bangladesh take aim at each other from Saturday, 30 November 2024 to Wednesday, 4 December 2024 in the second Test. This game will be shown to India with the live-streaming of the FanCode app.
The West Indies cricket team are ably led by captain Kraigg Brathwaite. Brathwaite is well-known for his doggedness at the crease. His leadership on and off the field has been pivotal in guiding the younger players. Joshua da Silva will be important as the designated wicket-keeper in leading the fielding unit with catches and stumping.
In the bowling department, the West Indies boast a potent pace attack featuring Kemar Roach, Alzarri Joseph, Jayden Seales and Shamar Joseph. Roach is an experienced customer. Alzarri Joseph, Jayden Seales and Shamar Joseph add youthful pace and energy to that strong lineup.
They will fancy the dampish bowling conditions. The bowling efforts were largely down to the group, but Alzarri Joseph claimed a three-wicket haul in the first innings. Kemar Roach and Jayden Seales followed suit with three wickets in the second innings.
The middle-order batting of Mikyle Louis, Keacy Carty, Kavem Hodge, Alick Athanaze and Justin Greaves are starting to establish themselves internationally. All of those batters are capable of scoring milestones to either rebuild an innings or look to counter-attack the Bangladeshi bowling.
The core of the middle-order is adaptable. Justin Greaves earned himself player-of-the-match for his 115 unbeaten runs in the previous Test. Mikyle Louis will be somewhat disappointed in ending on 97 runs in his first dig of the series.
Alick Athanaze was another batter to fall short of the triple-figure mark when he finished on 90 runs.
The Bangladesh cricket team will have Mehidy Hasan Miraz as the skipper of the team again. Mehidy's leadership brings the best of both worlds with bat and ball. His first Test included 68 runs and four wickets. Litton Das will be the wicketkeeper-batter commonly known to counter-attack. The batting lineup is further bolstered by Mahmudul Hasan Joy and Zakir Hasan opening.
The bowling attack is spearheaded by the experienced trio of spinner Taijul Islam and pacers Hasan Mahmud and Taskin Ahmed. Taijul is the ultimate professional in conditions which offer even a hint of turn.
Taskin Ahmed and Hasan Mahmud are both wicket-taking options throughout the innings on a surface which will aid their pace and seam movement. Mahmud grabbed three wickets of West Indies’ first innings. Taskin Ahmed was particularly lethal in the second innings with unbelievable figures of six for 64. Shoriful Islam will add to the fast-bowling lineup from the left-arm angle.
Mominul Haque brings extensive experience and a calm presence to the middle-order. Shahadat Hossain and Jaker Ali lack a ton of experience, but will be looking to impress to take up a permanent spot in the batting lineup. Mominul Haque and Jaker Ali both hit half-centuries in their first innings in game one.
Batting first proved to produce the best outcome in the previous Test. The West Indies made the most of the best batting conditions from the start. Both captains may feel that choosing to bat first will give the better result.
Sabina Park in Kingston, Jamaica will be the venue for the five days of the second Test. The seamers could be in business over the course of the Test with dampish conditions around. Batting may prove to be tricky if the seamers find their lines and lengths. Putting up a respectable first innings total will be vital to have a chance in the game.
Weather conditions do not present excitement for cricket lovers around the world. Rain is expected for parts of all five days of the Test match. The chances of rain will hover around the 30 to 40 percent chance mark over the Test, particularly in the afternoon sessions. The weather will also be hot and extremely humid.
History suggests that West Indies is well and truly favored for another win to wrap up the Test series. Their batting and bowling clicked for the first time in a long while. The challenge for West Indies will be whether they can string consistent performances together. Their fast bowling will be a strength at home.
