Australia To Win, 1.41
Sri Lanka has lost 4 of the last 5 matches against Australia
Australia has won 4 of its last 6 matches played at Galle
Australia’s batting line-up is much stronger compared to that of Sri Lanka
Australia is once again expected to start with Travis Head and Usman Khawaja in this match. They have put up 50-run stands in their last two outings and looking at their form, we expect another good start from them.
Steve Smith has been in good form over the last couple of months. He has scored 3 centuries in the first innings of his last 4 matches. He has an average of 59.89 against Sri Lanka and has scored 3 centuries in the first innings of his last 4 matches against them. We are, therefore, backing him to play a good knock.
After an emphatic victory in the first Test match, Australia will look to make a clean sweep as it takes on the hosts, Sri Lanka, for the second match starting Thursday. The two teams will once again clash at the Galle International Stadium.
The two teams have faced each other in 34 games. Australia is the dominant team with 21 wins, compared to just 5 for Sri Lanka, with 8 matches ending in a draw.
This match can be watched live on the Sony Liv App and FanCode App. It will also be telecast on the Sony Sports Network.
While not many expected Sri Lanka to win against the reigning Test champions, they put up a dismal performance in the first Test match and lost the match by an innings and 242 runs, their biggest-ever defeat in the longest format.
The opening pair of Oshada Fernando and Dimuth Karunaratne struggled in both innings against a relatively young Australian bowling attack and they never really recovered after that. The middle order has some experienced campaigners like Angelo Mathews, Kusal Mendis, and Dinesh Chandimal.
While some of them got off to good starts, none of them were able to go on and make a big score. Sri Lanka will be hopeful of getting Pathum Nissanka ready in time for this match as he recovers from a groin strain.
Kamindu Mendis, who struggled in both innings, could also sit out to make way for Sadeera Samarawickrama. The bowling department is likely to be unchanged. Asitha Fernando is the only full-time seamer, while Jeffrey Vanderday, Prabath Jayasuriya, and Nishan Peiris will be the three spinners.
Australia put up a clinical performance with both, the bat and the ball, as the team registered their biggest Test win in Asia.
The visitors are unlikely to change the combination of their team, which delivered in all departments. Travis Head, who was back in the opening slot, was at his aggressive best as he slammed a half-century in just 35 deliveries. He will join Usman Khawaja, who too played brilliantly to score his maiden double-century.
Steve Smith, Josh Inglis, and Alex Carey are all in great form, and Australia will look to post another mammoth total here. The visitors are likely to retain Mitchell Starc to bowl with the new ball and he will have Beau Webster to support him.
The spinners bowled an excellent line and length as they picked up 18 wickets between them.
The team winning the toss will likely opt to bat first.
The pitch at Galle is a typical Asian wicket where the surface is flat and hard, with very little grass. The batsmen will enjoy batting here for the first couple of days but as the match progresses, the cracks open up and the bowlers, particularly the spinners, gain the upper hand.
The team batting first will look to score 350-400 runs to get an early advantage.
The weather is likely to remain cloudy for all 5 days but there is little chance of rain.
Australia starts this match as the favorite to win. They put up an excellent performance in the first match and are likely to do so again. Sri Lanka will likely see the return of their best batsman but they will need to put in a lot of work to turn things around.
Bet on Australia to win.
