Australia To Win, 1.29
The hosts were victorious in the previous Women’s Ashes Test
Alyssa Healy is a smart cricket captain and will lead a team that is unbeaten this Women’s Ashes
The motivation to record an unprecedented 16-0 scoreline will power Australia Women
The legendary Australian all-rounder will be a key feature in the home side’s playing 11. Perry has accumulated more than 850 runs across her ten previous Women’s Tests with a batting average over 70. This should be a relatively safe bet.
This would be quite a risky bet based on these odds. The previous Women’s Test match between Australia Women and England Women started with a no ball and one run off the same delivery. A no ball off the first ball of the game is much more unlikely than one run.
The Australians have been faultless in both Women’s ODI and Women’s T20I series. This is England Women’s last chance for any pride to be restored after a Women’s Ashes tour which has been a nightmare. It should be no surprise if the home team steamroll their way to another victory as the cherry on top of an already-successful tour.
Over the last five Women’s Ashes Tests, the hosts are unbeaten. Australia Women have won twice in those five matches, including in the previous match in 2023. There have been three drawn matches between Australian victories.
This will be the final match of the Women’s Ashes 2024-25 and will be in the format of a Women’s Test between Australia Women and England Women. This is a four-day match from Thursday, 30 January 2025 to Sunday, 2 February 2025 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. This Women’s Test is available in India on the Star Sports Network for TV broadcast or Disney+ Hotstar app for live-streaming.
Captain Alyssa Healy was in a race against time to be fit again to play this Women’s Test. Her inclusion will make a world of difference for the home nation. She hit a half-century in her previous Women’s Ashes Test. Georgia Voll and Phoebe Litchfield bring youthful energy and promising talent.
Their adaptability to the longer format makes them extremely valuable members of the squad. Ellyse Perry is a true legend of the women’s game. Her elegant batting and impactful seam bowling make her a cornerstone of Australian cricket. Perry fell one run short of a century in the first innings of her previous Women’s Test against England Women.
Beth Mooney is a reliable wicketkeeper-batter. The left-hander is a master at building partnerships. Mooney made a valuable 85 runs against England Women in 2023. Ashleigh Gardner’s explosive all-round skills make her a match-winner. She will be hoping to achieve a similar performance to that of her previous Women’s Ashes Test.
Gardner cleaned up the English in 2023 with 40 runs, a four-wicket haul and an eight-wicket haul in the only Women’s Test of the series. Annabel Sutherland and Tahlia McGrath further strengthen the all-round core. Sutherland hit a century in her previous Women’s Ashes Test.
Alana King’s crafty leg-spin is a valuable weapon in the overs after the threat of the new ball wears off. Megan Schutt’s experience with the new ball and Darcie Brown’s raw pace round out a lethal bowling attack. Young bowler Brown has ten wickets in Women’s Tests.
The experienced Heather Knight will look to lead her team out of a hole from their results this tour. She has almost 1000 Women’s Test runs. Tammy Beaumont, with her prolific record, provides a solid foundation at the top of the order. She hammered a mammoth 208 runs against Australia Women two years ago in a Women’s Test.
Partnering Beaumont is Maia Bouchier with her energy. She will need to adjust to grinding out an innings for longer.
Danielle Wyatt-Hodge and Sophia Dunkley add firepower with their attacking stroke play. The all-round stocks are filled by consistent match-winner Nat Sciver-Brunt. Knight and Sciver-Brunt both hit half-centuries against Australia Women when they last played a Women’s Ashes Test. Wyatt-Hodge hit a half-century in the same match too.
Behind the stumps, Amy Jones combines sharp wicketkeeping with the ability to accelerate in the latter stages of an innings. Sophie Ecclestone as a world-class spinner is a trump card, especially on the last few days of the match. She took a five-wicket haul in each innings of the previous Women’s Ashes Test to give her ten wickets for the match.
The pace attack is led by the veteran Kate Cross. Cross has 25 wickets in her Women’s Test career. The English are also bolstered by younger faces with the raw pace of Lauren Bell and the promising swing of Lauren Filer. Young Filer has seven Women’s Test wickets in her three-match career.
The Australian Women won the previous Women’s Ashes Test by batting first. Both captains may fancy batting first as the method most likely to produce a winning outcome.
The Melbourne Cricket Ground pitch should give a balanced offering to batters and bowlers alike. The pitch will have decent bounce in it, particularly towards the start of the match. As the pitch deteriorates, the spinners could become more of a weapon on the final couple of days. Australia Women scored 337 for nine declared in their first innings of the previous Women’s Ashes Test hosted in Australia.
Day one will start with partly cloudy and moderate conditions. Temperatures will gradually get hotter across the four days. There is a ten percent chance of rain on the opening day. The following days are expected to be rain-free with no chance of rain on days two to four.
The Australian Women have drilled home their dominance across both white-ball formats, winning both by a whitewash. This Women’s Test will be the last resort for the visitors to restore any sense of pride in a disappointing visit to the land down under. The Aussies have a consistent squad across all formats which will give them confidence to do a clean sweep across all three formats.
Bet on Australia Women to win this match.
