As the 2nd edition of the Women’s Premier League gets underway this month, the Royal Challengers Bangalore will kick off their campaign on 24th February as they face the UP Warriorz at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
Both teams have faced each other in 2 matches so far, with both winning 1 match each.
This match can be live-streamed on the Jio Cinema App or can be watched live on the Sports 18 Network.
The Royal Challengers were rather inconsistent last season as they managed to win just 2 of the 8 matches they played. As a result, the team finished 4th on the points table and missed out on a playoff berth.
The franchise has gone for a good blend of Indian and foreign players this time around. Smriti Mandhana, Sophie Devine, and Ellyse Perry are likely to feature at the top of the order and are capable of giving the team a strong start.
The squad also features plenty of local talent in the form of Richa Ghosh, S. Meghana, and S. Shubha, giving the selectors flexibility. With Heather Graham withdrawing from the tournament, there is a big void, which the team has tried to fill by bringing in Nadine de Klerk.
The bowling attack is spin-heavy thanks to the presence of Georgia Wareham, Sophie Molineux, and Shreyanka Patil. The seam attack can be a weak spot with Kate Cross being the lone quality fast bowler.
The UP Warriorz managed to finish 3rd on the points table in the last edition and managed to reach the Eliminator. However, they were knocked out from there by the eventual champions, the Mumbai Indians W.
The UP Warriorz have a strong roster of overseas players. The biggest among them is undoubtedly Chamari Athapaththu, who has been brilliant in the past year. She will likely be joined by Alyssa Healy at the top of the order. Together, they will look to form a strong base for the middle-order batting to build on.
The team also has Tahlia McGrath and Sophie Ecclestone. The latter was the joint-highest wicket-taker of the last edition. There are also a couple of quality Indian spinners in the form of Deepti Sharma and Rajeshwari Gayakwad who will complement Ecclestone.
The team does lack quality batters in the middle order and the pace attack looks especially vulnerable in the absence of an experienced new ball bowler.
The team winning the toss will likely opt to bat first.
The pitch at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium is a batting paradise. The ball comes nicely onto the bat and the batters will be able to play their shots freely. The team batting first will look to score at least 180 runs to give their bowlers a good chance. That said, the bowlers who bowl a disciplined line and length will be rewarded.
The weather in Bengaluru is likely to be clear with temperatures between 25 and 30 degrees Celsius.
We are backing the Royal Challengers Bangalore to win this contest. They have a strong squad on their hands with plenty of talent in all departments. The bowling is likely to be much stronger compared to the UP Warriorz and that will give the team an edge.
Bet on the Royal Challengers Bangalore W to win the match.
