Mumbai Indians have enjoyed excellent luck when it comes to winning the toss this season. They have lost only once in the 6 matches played so far. We expect them to ride their luck and win here yet again.
Nat Sciver-Brunt is among the leading wicket-takers for Mumbai with 7 wickets. She has picked at least 2 wickets in 2 of her last 3 matches and is in good form with the ball. As the pitch in Delhi does help the seamers, and with the kind of odds on offer, betting on Nat Sciver-Brunt is a good option.
Beth Mooney is the leading run-scorer for Gujarat with 145 runs scored at an average of 36.25. She is one of the most experienced batters in the line-up and looks in good touch as she scored a brilliant half-century in the last match. We are therefore backing her to be the top batter for her team.
The Gujarat Giants will be looking to stay in the race for the playoffs as they take on the defending champions, the Mumbai Indians, this weekend in the WPL. The match will be played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
Both teams have played 3 matches against each other so far, with Mumbai winning each one of them.
This match can be live-streamed on the Jio Cinema App or can be watched live on the Sports 18 Network.
After facing 4 consecutive losses since the start of the season, the Gujarat Giants finally managed to get their first points by defeating the Royal Challengers on Wednesday. While they remain at the bottom of the table, the team has kept its hope of making it to the playoffs alive.
Beth Mooney and Laura Woolvardt were in scintillating form on Wednesday as they put up a 140-run partnership for the first wicket in just 13 overs. That set the tone for the team to post a match-winning target of 200. Mooney and Woolvardt scored individual half-centuries, but the form of the middle-order batters remains a concern.
The likes of Phoebe Litchfield, D Hemalatha, and Kathryn Bryce have failed to get going. Ashleigh Gardner has done a decent job as an all-rounder, scoring 92 runs and picking up 5 wickets. She will join Tanuja Kanwar, who is the leading wicket-taker for the team, in the spin department.
The pace attack consists of Meghna Singh, Kathryn Bryce, and Mannat Kashyap.
With 4 wins in 6 matches, the Mumbai Indians are currently placed second on the points table. If the team wins here, they will almost certainly qualify for the playoffs.
The batters have done a good job so far and with the kind of pitches on offer at Delhi, they are once again likely to play an important part. Amelia Kerr is the leading run-scorer for Mumbai, with 174 runs. She has received good support from Harmanpreet Kaur and Nat Sciver-Brunt in the middle order.
The latter put up an excellent all-round display in the last match, scoring 45 runs and also picking up 2 wickets. The opening pair of Yastika Bhatia and Hayley Matthews can score quickly during the Powerplay but the duo has been a bit inconsistent.
Mumbai has plenty of options when it comes to bowling, thanks to the plenty of all-rounders in the squad. Nat Sciver-Brunt and Amelia Kerr are the leading wicket-takers with 7 wickets each. Saika Ishaque and Shabnim Ismail have bowled a couple of good spells in the last week, and have picked up 11 wickets between them.
The team winning the toss will likely opt to bat first.
The pitch at Delhi is excellent to bat on. The surface is firm and there isn’t much green grass. The batters will find it easy to play their shots as there isn’t much movement off the seam. The average first-inning score here is around 190.
The pitch does slow down a bit in the second half and the batters will have to be a bit more careful with their shot selection.
The weather will be clear with temperatures of around 20 degrees Celsius.
With the Gujarat Giants gaining some momentum in the last match, we can expect a close fight between the two teams. Nevertheless, the Mumbai Indians have been more consistent compared to Gujarat and have a stronger squad compared to their opponents.
Bet on the Mumbai Indians W to win.
