The Capitals Women have a strong batting lineup. This should be a strong bet for a team that will look to dominate by accelerating not losing early wickets. It took them 7.1 overs to lose their first wicket in their previous match against Bangalore Women.
The team has two aggressive openers who will look to counter-attack the threat of the seaming new ball. Their powerplay could start off with a productive opening over. The team scored nine runs in their first over of the 2024 WPL Final.
The Delhi Capitals Women ended top of the pops in 2024. They secured a first-place finish on the 2024 log, but suffered a blow at the last hurdle to set their hopes of lifting their first trophy alight. The team have made consecutive WPL finals and will be desperate to kick on to become champions this time. They could be slight favourites. The Royal Challengers Bangalore Women, as their name suggests, will pose a stern challenge for Delhi.
This fixture has been rather lopsided in favour of Delhi Capitals Women by four wins to one in the last five matches between them. Importantly though, Royal Challengers Bangalore Women won last year’s Final against Delhi to win the 2024 tournament.
The 2024 WPL finalists Delhi Capitals Women and Royal Challengers Bangalore Women will meet each other again in a widely anticipated match on Monday, 17 February 2025 at Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara, India. Watch the game live in India via the Sports 18 Channel or the JioCinema app.
Leading the Delhi Capitals Women side is Australian stalwart Meg Lanning. Her strategic acumen and batting prowess have been pivotal in previous campaigns both in the WPL and nationally. She is nine runs shy of 700 runs in the WPL. Opening alongside her is India's dynamic Shafali Verma.
The youngster is known for her explosive starts to set the tone for the innings, such as her 43 runs off 18 balls against Mumbai Indians Women.
The middle order is fortified by the elegant Jemimah Rodrigues. English all-rounder Alice Capsey and Australia's Annabel Sutherland bring versatility as key contributors with bat and ball. Englishwoman Capsey has over 400 WPL runs. The Australian claimed three wickets in her previous match.
Young talent Niki Prasad, fresh from leading India to an Under-19 World Cup victory, is eager to make her mark in the league. She hit 35 runs in her previous WPL innings.
Behind the stumps, Scottish wicketkeeper Sarah Bryce offers reliability and international experience. The bowling attack features seasoned campaigners like Shikha Pandey and Radha Yadav. Pandey was both economical and a wicket-taker against Mumbai with two wickets for only 14 runs in four overs.
Arundhati Reddy's medium-fast deliveries and Minnu Mani's off-spin enhance the team's bowling depth.
Leading the team is a captain from India in Smriti Mandhana. She is also a prolific left-handed batter known for her consistent performances on the international stage. Complementing her at the top is England's Danni Wyatt-Hodge to give the team an explosive start.
Australian all-rounder Ellyse Perry is one of the greatest all-rounders in the women’s game. She will be one of the team’s most valuable players. She hit a half-century against Gujarat Giants Women. Wicketkeeper-batter Richa Ghosh is poised to be a game-changer in crucial moments with the gloves and bat. Ghosh played a magnificent knock of 64 runs unbeaten off 27 balls against the Giants Women.
The all-rounder contingent is bolstered by domestic players like Kanika Ahuja as a dynamic left-handed batter and right-arm off-break bowler. She exemplified true boundary-hitting power with 30 runs not out off only 13 balls in her previous WPL innings. Georgia Wareham, an Australian leg-spinner, brings variation to the bowling attack for after the powerplay. The Australian has 69 wickets in T20s internationally.
Irish-born Kim Garth, now representing Australia, offers reliable medium-fast bowling. Emerging talents such as Raghvi Bist, a right-handed batter and medium-fast bowler who debuted internationally in December 2024, and Prema Rawat, a promising all-rounder, infuse fresh energy and potential into the squad. Bist hit 25 runs in her first innings for the Bangalore Women.
The bowling department is spearheaded by Renuka Singh. She is renowned for her precision and wicket-taking abilities with right-arm medium-fast deliveries. Singh took two wickets in her opening game of the WPL for 2025. VJ Joshitha is a young right-arm medium-fast bowler who adds depth to the pace attack.
The previous match between these teams was won by the chasing side. Both captains may be looking to bat second for the same result.
Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara was inaugurated in December 2024. The ground has quickly gained a reputation for being a batting-friendly venue. This trend continued in the Women's Premier League 2025 opener. Both teams surpassed the 200-run mark to further cement the stadium's status as a haven for batters.
Monday’s weather conditions will be a scorcher. Temperatures will be upwards of 33 degrees Celsius with humidity. There is no rain expected though.
We get another glimpse at two of the best teams in the 2024 WPL. The Royal Challengers Bangalore Women lifted the trophy after a stupendous display of chasing a target in a final. The Delhi Capitals Women will be primed to exact revenge after a disappointing end to their season. They have also started with a record-breaking chase in their previous match.
Bet on Delhi Capitals Women to win this match.
