The pitch at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium is excellent to bat on. With both teams featuring quality batters, we are expecting to see at least one high-scoring over.
Both, Delhi and Mumbai, are quality batting teams. 4 of the top 5 run-scorers for the last season came from either Mumbai or Delhi. We are therefore expecting at least one of them to play a big inning in this match.
Meg Lanning was the leading run-getter of the last season, scoring 345 runs in 9 innings. She has shown good form in the recent Women’s National League, scoring 2 half-centuries in 4 innings. We are therefore backing her to be the top batter in this match.
The much-awaited 2nd edition of the Women’s Premier League is all set to begin this month. The Delhi Capitals W will take on the Mumbai Indians W in what will essentially be a rematch of the finals of the previous season. The match will be played on 23rd February at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore.
Both teams have played 3 matches against each other to date. The Mumbai Indians have won 2 of those, while the Delhi Capitals have managed to win 1.
This match can be live-streamed on the Jio Cinema App or can be watched live on the Sports 18 Network.
The Delhi Capitals were among the most consistent teams last season, winning 6 of their 8 matches. As a result, the team finished at the top of the points table and got a direct entry to the Finals.
While the Capitals have managed to retain most of their core team, they have also injected fresh talent into the squad as they look to put up an even better performance this year. Meg Lanning, who was the leading run-scorer of last year will once again lead the team.
She, along with Jemimah Rodrigues and Shafali Varma makes for a formidable top order. Marizanne Kapp was excellent in the recent ODI series against Australia W and will be joined by Annabel Sutherland and Jess Jonassen in the middle order.
The Capitals have plenty of variety in the bowling lineup thanks to the all-rounders mentioned above. Titas Sadhu, Arundhati Reddy, Shikha Pandey, and Ashwini Kumari will feature in the pace attack, while Alice Capsey will lead the spin department and will be supported by Radha Yadav, Poonam Yadav, and Jess Jonassen.
Just like the Delhi Capitals, the Mumbai Indians won 6 of the 8 matches played during the group stage. However, they missed the top spot due to an inferior NRR. Nevertheless, the team put up an excellent performance in the knockouts to lift the title.
Just like the previous season, the Mumbai Indians have bet heavily on the all-rounders. Hayley Matthews and Nat Sciver-Brunt were among the top 5 run-getters last season and also picked up plenty of wickets. Amelia Kerr also played an important role with the ball while scoring important runs.
They will be joined by Harmanpreet Kaur to make up a formidable batting unit. While the team has plenty of options when it comes to spin, they are a bit short when it comes to seam attack. The Mumbai Indians have tried to bridge the gap by roping in Shabnim Ismail but they lack quality Indian pacers.
The team winning the toss will likely opt to bowl first.
The pitch at Bangalore has traditionally been a high-scoring venue and we can expect a similar pitch for this match. While the seamers can expect some help from the surface when the ball is new, there is very little margin for error. The outfield is quick and the batters will be able to play the big shots with ease. The team batting first will aim for the 200-run mark.
The weather is likely to be clear with temperatures between 25 and 30 degrees Celsius.
Delhi and Mumbai are two of the strongest teams in the league and we can expect a cracking contest between the two. Looking at the on-paper strengths and weaknesses, we feel that the Mumbai Indians have an edge in this match thanks to a powerful batting line-up.
Bet on the Mumbai Indians W to win.
