The Delhi Capitals will be looking to hold on to the top spot as they take on the Gujarat Giants in the final group-stage match in the ongoing WPL. Both teams face off at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Wednesday.
Both teams have faced each other in 3 matches to date. The Delhi Capitals have won 2 of those matches, while the Giants have won one.
This match can be live-streamed on the Jio Cinema App or can be watched live on the Sports 18 Network.
The Delhi Capitals have played some excellent cricket this season and are sitting at the top of the points table. Another win here will virtually guarantee them a direct spot in the finals.
The top-order batting for Delhi has been quite consistent. Skipper Meg Lanning has led the team from the front, scoring 290 runs, and is yet again the leading run-scorer for her team. She has received good support from Alice Capsey, Shafali Verma, and Jemimah Rodrigues, all of whom have played some valuable knocks.
While the team has some quality all-rounders like Marizanne Kapp, Jess Jonassen, and Annabel Sutherland, they have been a bit inconsistent with the bat. The bowling has been spot-on from the team, with Jess Jonassen and Radha Yadav being the joint-highest wicket-takers of the season.
Marizanne Kapp, Shikha Pandey, and Arundhati Reddy have bowled well in patches and together, they make Delhi one of the most potent bowling units in the league.
The Gujarat Giants didn’t have the best of starts to their campaigns as they lost each of their first 4 matches.
However, 2 wins in the last 3 matches have meant that the team still has a mathematical chance of making it to the playoffs.
Beth Mooney is in red-hot form and has scored half-centuries in each of her last 3 innings. She will look to give the team a strong start alongside Laura Woolvardt, who too has played consistently well in the last few matches. The middle-order batting remains a concern for the team, especially in the absence of Harleen Deol. D Hemalatha, Ashleigh Gardner, and Phoebe Litchfield, while being quality players, have failed to get going.
Coming to the bowling, the spinners have done a decent job so far, with Tanuja Kanwar and Ashleigh Gardner picking up 15 wickets between them. The seamers however have struggled. Although, Shabnam Shakil bowled an excellent spell in the last match, picking up 3 wickets.
The team winning the toss will likely opt to bat first.
The pitch in Delhi is excellent to bat on. The surface is firm with very little grass and the ball comes nicely onto the bat. We can expect plenty of runs in this match. The spinners will find some help, especially in the second half, as the pitch slows down a bit.
The average first-inning score here is around 180.
The weather in Delhi is expected to be pleasant with temperatures of between 21 and 23 degrees.
While the Gujarat Giants have seen a sort of resurgence in the last three matches, we feel that they are no match for an in-form team like the Delhi Capitals. The latter have been clinical in their performance this season and are likely to dominate the proceeding.
