The pitch in Sharjah provides plenty of help for the bowlers. 4 of the 7 matches played here have seen at least 14 wickets fall. As both teams have some in-form bowlers, we are expecting plenty of wickets to fall in this match as well.
Alyssa Healy and Beth Mooney have been pretty consistent at the top of the order. They have scored at least 36 runs as a pair in each of the last two games and we are backing them to put up a good partnership yet again.
Australia W to win the match, 1.42
The Indian Women’s team will look to improve its chances of making it to the playoffs as it faces Australia in what will be the last group-stage match for both teams. The match will be played on Sunday at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.
The two teams have faced each other in 34 matches to date. Australia won 25 of those games, while India managed to win seven. One match ended in a tie, while one match ended without any outcome.
This match will be live-streamed on the Disney+ Hotstar App. One can also watch it live on the Star Sports Network.
After losing its opening fixture against New Zealand, India has managed to turn things around in style, scoring big wins against Pakistan and Sri Lanka. It has moved to second place on the points table and also enjoys a good NRR. If India wins this match, it will almost certainly make it to the playoffs.
The opening pair of Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma was in top form on Wednesday as they put up a partnership of 98 runs to set the tone for a match-winning total. Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur too managed to strike good form as she scored a brisk half-century.
The top three batters will once again play a key role if India wants to defeat Australia. However, the form of the middle order remains a bit of a concern. Jemimah Rodrigues, Richa Ghosh, and Deepti Sharma haven’t been able to get going so far.
Should the top-3 batters fail, India could be staring at a collapse.
Coming to the bowling, the quicker bowlers, Arundhati Reddy and Renuka Thakur Singh have done a good job, picking up 12 wickets between them. The spin attack consists of Shreyanka Patil, Deepti Sharma, and Asha Sobhana. They have bowled well in patches but lack consistency.
The defending champions have been clinical in their performance in this edition as well. They have won all the 3 matches played so far and are sitting pretty at the top of the Group A table. They also enjoy the best NRR among all teams and are all but through to the playoffs.
The opening pair of Beth Mooney and Alyssa Healy has been pretty consistent throughout the tournament. Mooney is the leading run-scorer for the team so far, scoring 98 runs at an average of 49.00. Healy seemed to have picked up a calf injury in the previous game but should hopefully be fine for this game.
Australia has a huge list of all-rounders playing for it in the middle order, including Ashleigh Gardner, Ellyse Perry, Tahlia McGrath, Georgia Wareham, and Annabel Sutherland. They not only add depth to the batting but also provide variety in the bowling department. Gardner bowled a brilliant spell in the last match to pick up 4 wickets.
She will lead the spin attack alongside Sophie Molineux and Georgia Wareham. Megan Schutt is the leading wicket-taker for the team with 7 wickets and will share the new ball with Annabel Sutherland.
The team winning the toss will likely opt to bat first.
The pitch at Sharjah hasn’t been the easiest to bat on. The highest team score here in this tournament is 148, while the highest successful run chase is 125.
There are patches of green grass on the pitch, and the ball does keep low quite often. The bowlers, particularly the spinners, have enjoyed plenty of success at this venue.
Many rough spots on the surface will help the bowlers get some movement. The weather will be dry and warm with temperatures of over 30 degrees.
While India has built up good momentum, winning two consecutive games, we feel that Australia has a stronger team that has performed better on all fronts. India’s middle-order batting lacks consistency and that could hurt them against a strong opposition like Australia.
Bet on Australia Women to win this contest.
