14:00With the tournament starting in October 2024, here is where you'll find all the latest odds and stats. Our expert tipsters provide Women's T20 World Cup predictions for every game in the event.
The 2024 edition of the Women's T20 World Cup is expected to be the most competitive yet, with at least four teams likely to be serious challengers.
We'll have all the predictions and analysis right here to help you enjoy all the action.
Australia starts the tournament as the firm favorite and for good reason. There is no a single sports team in the world, across sports, that can claim to have the kind of dominance that the Australian Women’s cricket team has shown in world events.
They have won 80% (35 wins from 44 matches) of all their matches across different T20 World Cups.
Their strength is their incredible batting lineup. They have genuine match-winners batting till number 8. No other team has that kind of depth and that allows Australia to attack from the very start. Losing a couple of early wickets does not make them vulnerable to a collapse.
Australia women also have a very good bowling attack with experienced fast-bowlers and all-rounders to chip in when needed. We think Alana King might be the ace in their bowling pack. She is a genuine wrist-spinner who will challenge the opposition batters during the middle overs.
There are no obvious weaknesses in the Australian cricket team. The only way we see them losing matches if they lose the toss on a pitch that does not suit them, get the worse of the conditions, and have an uncharacteristically bad day.
India has reached the final of the T20 World Cup just once, back in 2020. Since then, Indian Women’s cricket has improved a lot, and the team is now considered among the strongest in the world.
Batters like Smriti Mandhana, Shafali Varma, and Harmanpreet Kaur play across the world in various T20 Leagues. That experience has helped them learn the modern way of cricket and also come up to the proper fitness standards.
There is also a fair amount of depth in the batting with players like Jamimah Rodrigues, Yastika Bhatia, and Deepti Sharma expected to play most matches. India also has a lot of quality spinners in their ranks and should be able to make the most of the conditions in the UAE.
Radha Yadav and Deepti Sharma could be the most important players for India in this tournament.
While a strong case can be made for India, the lack of trophies on its cabinet shows that the team lacks big-match experience. It also tends to depend a bit too heavily on just one or two players. That can mean a big drop in performance on days when Smriti Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kaur do not score runs.
Sometimes, it just makes sense to stick with the favorites. Australia has showcased its dominance across different conditions and over a prolonged period of time. Some of its legendary players are getting a bit older, but the younger replacements in their squad show no sign of letting up.
Our betting strategy would be to bet on Australia to win the tournament outright and also to win all of its matches.
The four teams that look a cut above the rest are:
All of these teams have a winning percentage that is well above the rest of the teams. They also have the most amount of players that play in the highest quality T20 leagues around the world. We find them to have more depth and bowling firepower than their compatriots.
Over a long tournament like the T20 World Cup, quality emerges to the top and so we are pretty confident in our picks.
West Indies and Sri Lanka are two more teams that have the ability to cause some upsets. While they may be in contention for a spot, we don't see them being able to consistently come up with the kind of performances needed to qualify.
The aggressive opening batter from India is known for providing explosive starts to the team. Historically, the top batter of a tournament bats in the top 3 because they get to take advantage of the fielding restrictions and also face the most amount of deliveries.
Shafali Varma is also unlikely to be bothered by extra bounce in the UAE, a known weakness. That will allow her to play with complete freedom. We are banking on at least one or two big innings from here in this tournament, something that should help put her in the race to the Top Scorer.
The Aussie wrist-spinner is one of the most exciting bowlers in world cricket today. She has a phenomenal strike rate of 18.6 and will benefit from the conditions in the UAE. King also has the advantage of playing in an Australian team where she is likely to be defending large totals on most occasions.
The opposition batters will be forced to attack her and this will give her plenty of wicket-taking opportunities.

The Women's T20 World Cup is sanctioned by the ICC, the main governing board in cricket and is held every two years. It was first staged in 2009, when it was held in England over the course of 10 days.
During that first competition, all group games were played at the County Ground, Taunton. This ground is owned by Somerset Cricket Club and has a maximum capacity of just 8,500. The final was played at Lord’s, one of the world’s best known cricket grounds.
England won that competition during a hotly contested final against New Zealand, but in the years that followed fierce rivals, Australia, quickly took control and became very dominant.
There were only eight teams in that first tournament and they played a total of 15 games. These days a total of 10 teams contest the ICC Women's T20 World Cup over 23 games, and this extension speaks volumes for the increasing popularity of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup and the woman’s game in general.
There has been some inconstancy regarding the scheduling of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup, because while it is planned for every two years, there were actually two tournaments between 2009 and 2010.
However, the schedule seems to have settled since then, and as is the case with all major tournaments, future ICC Women's T20 World Cup events are now planned years in advance.
There is a qualifier event for the ICC Women's T20 World Cup, and this event decides the final two teams that make it through. The other teams are given automatic qualification based on their world ranking places, which basically includes the biggest cricket countries in the world. The host is also given automatic qualification.
The ICC Women's T20 World Cup format is similar to other major cricket competitions in that it follows a round-robin and play-off setup. To begin with, all teams are split into two groups, and over the course of the next week or so, each team will play every other team once.
There are 2 points awarded for a win, 1 point for a no result, and if there are two or more teams with the same score at the end of the competition then priority is given to the team with the most wins. If the number of wins are also the same, then net run rate comes into play, followed by bowling strike rate and then the head-to-head result.
The top two teams from each group progress to a playoff round, which then becomes the semi-finals. The winners of each semi-final progress to a final, and the winner of that match then becomes the champion, with the loser taking the runner-up spot.
The tournament is fairly short lived, with all matches played over the course of three weeks, but there are also warm-up matches prior to the event kicking off and during these matches all participating teams are given the chance to get accustomed to the host stadiums and to shake off some of that jet lag.
