Brandon King and Alick Athanaze haven’t been in good form as an opening pair in recent matches. They have put up a partnership of 24 or more runs in just 1 out of their last 4 games and we expect them to continue struggling.
Only 1 ODI of the last 8 played on this venue has seen 16 or more wickets fall. As we are expecting another rain-shortened match, it is unlikely that we will see more than 15 wickets fall.
Sri Lanka to win the match 1.40
Having already won the 3-match series, Sri Lanka will look for a clean sweep as it faces the West Indies for the final match on Saturday. The game will be played at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium.
The two teams have faced each other in 67 matches to date. Sri Lanka won 33 of those while the West Indies won 31. Two matches ended without any result.
This match will be live-streamed on FanCode App. You can also watch it live on the Sony Ten Sports Network.
Sri Lanka has been clinical in its performance during the first two ODIs and has now won 3 of its last 5 home series. It will now aim for the jugular and make a clean sweep.
Charith Asalanka has led the team from the front, scoring half-centuries in both games. He will once again be the key batsman for the hosts in this match. Asalanka has received good support from Janith Liyanage and Sadeera Samarawickrama.
The opening pair of Nishan Madushka and Avishka Fernando has done a decent job as well. Madushka has been particularly impressive given the fact that this is his debut ODI series. However, Sri Lanka’s biggest strength is its bowling unit, particularly the spinners.
Wanindu Hasaranga has picked up 6 wickets in 2 games and received excellent support from Maheesh Theekshana. Asitha Fernando, who picked up 3 wickets in the last match will lead the pace department.
Despite having a strong team on paper, the West Indies’ poor run in the ODI format continues as it has now lost 3 of their last 4 bilateral series.
Alick Athanaze and Brandon King will need to play better at the top of the order. Their poor form has led to a cascading effect on the batsmen lower down as they have struggled to rebuild. Similarly, the likes of Shai Hope and Keacy Carty have struggled to convert their starts into big knocks.
Sherfane Rutherford has been the standout performer for the visitors, scoring half-centuries in both his outings. He received good support from Gudakesh Motie, who put up an all-round performance, but it was too little too late for the team.
Motie is also the joint-highest wicket-taker for the team along with Alzarri Joseph. Jayden Seales and Hayden Walsh have both gone wicketless so far.
The team winning the toss will likely opt to bowl first.
Both the matches played here in this series were shortened due to rain and there is more rain expected over the weekend. The surface has some grass and moisture and the ball skids onto the bat. It remains a good surface to bat with a par score of around 300. That said, the spinners have found plenty of success here and we expect them to continue getting so.
The weather will remain overcast and there might be interruptions due to rain.
Sri Lanka has been clinical in this series and has performed well in all departments. The tea seems to have struck a good balance of players and will hope to wrap things up without a fuss. West Indies will have to gather its act and play out of their skin if they want to win.
