The pitch at Pallekele is usually well-balanced and the bowlers will get a lot of help if they bowl a tight line. The ball zips through and the spinners will get plenty of turn as well. Going after the bowling will be difficult here and we are unlikely to see a big over.
Pallekele is one of Hasaranga’s favorite hunting grounds. He has picked up 16 wickets in his 8 matches here and has picked up at least 2 wickets in 5 of his last 7 outings here.
Sri Lanka to win the match 1.35
After winning the T20 series, Sri Lanka will look to claim an unassailable lead in the ODI series as well as they face the West Indies for the 2nd game on Wednesday. The match will be played at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium.
The two teams have faced each other in 66 matches to date. Sri Lanka won 32 of them while the West Indies won 31. 2 games ended without any result.
This match will be live-streamed on FanCode App. One can also watch it live on the Sony Ten Sports Network.
Sri Lanka put up a clinical performance in the first game to gain an early advantage. They now hope to continue with the winning momentum and win the 3-match series as well.
Debutante Nishan Madushka played an excellent knock at the top of the order as he scored a half-century and laid the foundation for a successful chase in the rain-shortened match. He was well-supported by skipper Charith Asalanka who scored a half-century of his own.
The other batsmen in the top and middle order include Avishkar Fernando, Kusal Mendis, Kamindu Mendu, and Sadeera Samarawickrama. All-rounders Wanindu Hasaranga and Dunith Wellalage will add depth to the batting.
Hasaranga will also be the key bowler for the hosts in this match as he has an excellent record at Pallekele. Hasaranga will be joined by Jeffrey Vandersay and Wellalage in the spin department while Asitha Fernando and Janith Liyanage are likely to lead the attack with the new ball.
The West Indies will be disappointed with the way they have performed on this tour. After winning the first T20I, things have gone downhill and they have now lost 3 matches on the trot across formats.
Despite having a strong batting unit, the team has been unable to put up match-winning scores. The opening pair of Alick Athanaze and Brandon King hasn’t been in the best of forms individually or as a pair, and that cost the team dearly during the powerplay.
There are quite a few all-rounders in the middle order including Keacy Carty, Romario Shepherd, and Roston Chase but none of them have had much of an impact with the bat. Sherfane Rutherford did lead the counterattack in the previous game, scoring an impressive 74 not out under pressure but the rain cut short his stint.
Shai Hope will need to shoulder more responsibility in this match if the visitors want to win. The bowlers struggled in the previous game due to a slippery ball and a wet outfield. The West Indies is unlikely to change the composition of its bowling unit which will continue to feature Gudakesh Motie, Jayden Seales, Alzarri Joseph, and Hayden Walsh.
The team winning the toss will likely opt to bowl first.
The pitch at Pallekele is likely to be balanced and provides equal opportunities for the batsmen and the bowlers. The pitch doesn’t have much grass but there will be some moisture on the surface as it has been raining here. The quicker bowlers will get some help with the new ball, while the spinners will come into action once the ball gets older.
A score of around 290 is a par score on this ground.
The weather is likely to remain overcast and we may see some interruptions due to rain.
Sri Lanka has been playing some excellent cricket off late and hardly broke a sweat as it defeated the visitors on Sunday. We expect them to continue playing well. The West Indies on the other hand have been a bit inconsistent.
