IND vs WI Betting Tips

Highest opening partnership - India

India is likely to open its batting with KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal. They have averaged over 36 in the 18 innings they have opened for India so far. Coming off a brilliant tour of England, I think both of them will be hungry to cash in and score big.

Shubman Gill to score Over 39.5 in 1st innings

Gill is currently India’s best batsman in the red-ball format. He scored 4 centuries during India’s recent tour to England, two of which came during the 1st innings, and one of which was a double-hundred. He scored a century during his previous appearance on this ground, and I see no reason why he cannot continue in the same vein here.

The West Indies is set to tour India early next month for a red-ball series. The first of the two Test matches will begin on Thursday, 2nd October, at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The result of this match and even the series can be considered a foregone conclusion, but there is still plenty of value to be found.

India vs West Indies Head-to-Head Record

The two teams have faced each other in 100 matches to date. The West Indies won 30 matches while India won 23. 47 matches ended in a draw. This overall record is highly skewed because of West Indies dominating cricket in the 70's and 80's. West Indies last won a Test match in India in 1994.

IND vs WI Team Previews

India

India’s start to the current World Test Championship hasn’t been ideal, as it managed to win only two of the 5 matches during the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy played in England earlier this year.

This will ensure that India does not take this series lightly as it chases maximum points and builds towards a place in the World Test Championship Final.

India’s squad is more or less on the expected lines, with a few changes in the 15 players that toured England for the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. Karun Nair has been dropped following his dismal performance there and has been replaced by Devdutt Padikkal. Rishabh Pant misses out as well, due to an injury he picked up in England.

N Jagadeesan comes in as his cover. However, he is unlikely to feature in this match as Dhruv Jurel will be the first-choice wicket-keeper. Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul are likely to reprise their roles in the opening slot, while Shubman Gill, Sai Sudharsan, and Padikkal will add heft to the middle order.

India has named Ravindra Jadeja as the vice-captain of the team. He had an excellent time in England and will look to put up a similar performance here. He, along with Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, and Kuldeep Yadav, forms a strong spin department.

Jasprit Bumrah is available for both games and will be joined by Mohammed Siraj with the new ball.

India Expected Playing 11

KL Rahul, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sai Sudharsan, Shubman Gill (C), Devdutt Padikkal, Dhruv Jurel (WK), Washington Sundar, Ravindra Jadeja, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav

West Indies

The West Indies is coming into this series after suffering a humiliating 3-0 loss against Australia at home. The team’s form in recent years has been far from perfect, and it has appeared to be a team in transition for quite a while now. Nevertheless, they will hope to make a fresh start here.

West Indies has dropped Kraigg Brathwaite, Keacy Carty, and Mikyle Louis from the squad that faced Australia and has brought in Alick Athanaze and Tagenarine Chanderpaul, both of whom are well-equipped to face the slower bowlers.

Chanderpaul is likely to open the batting alongside John Campbell, while Athanaze will join the likes of Shai Hope, Brandon King, and Kevlon Anderson in the middle order. The West Indies have a couple of good all-rounders in the form of Justin Greaves and Roston Chase.

The duo can not only bat well but are experienced bowlers as well. With Shamar Joseph ruled out of the series due to an injury, the West Indies will depend on Alzarri Joseph and Jayden Seales to do some damage with the new ball.

Khary Pierre has earned his maiden Test call-up and will likely join Jomel Warrican in the spin department.

West Indies Expected Playing 11

Tagenarine Chanderpaul, John Campbell, Shai Hope (WK), Alick Athanaze, Roston Chase (C), Brandon King, Justin Greaves, Alzarri Joseph, Jayden Seales, Jomel Warrican, Khary Pierre

IND vs WI Toss Prediction

It has been an even split between the teams batting first and those batting second here during the last 8 matches played here. In each of the last 3 matches played here since the Stadium reopened after renovation, the team winning the toss has opted to bat first, and we expect that trend to continue.

Pitch Report and Weather Conditions

The surface is likely to be flat and hard during the first couple of days, offering excellent pace and bounce. While the new ball will get some movement off the seam as well as through the air, the batsmen will enjoy batting here once they settle down.

The average first-inning score here is around 330. However, as the match progresses, the surface dries out and the cracks open up, allowing the spinners to extract plenty of turn. Anything over 200 will be difficult to chase here in the 4th innings.

The weather will remain cloudy and humid. There are some scattered showers expected throughout the next week.

IND vs WI: Who Will Win?

India starts this match as the favorites to win. They have a well-balanced squad at their disposal with plenty of depth in their batting and a well-rounded bowling attack. While the West Indies does have some quality players, they are unlikely to cause much trouble to India, especially as the latter plays with a home advantage.

Bet on India to win.
