Heather Graham is among the top 5 wicket-takers in the history of WBBL. She has an excellent record against Thunder as well, picking up 23 wickets in 19 games against them. Graham was the best bowler for Hobart in the previous game and as the pitch in Sydney does help the seamers, we are backing her to bowl another good spell.
Litchfield is among the most successful batters for Sydney Thunder. She has scored a total of 1263 runs for the team at an average of 24.76. She scored a half-century in the previous game and given her form, we expect a good knock from her.
Hobart Hurricanes W to win the match 1.793
Sydney Thunder will be out to take revenge as they take on the Hobart Hurricanes in a reverse fixture on Thursday. The match will be played at the North Sydney Oval.
The two teams have faced each other in 17 matches to date. Sydney won 10 of those games while Hobart won 7.
This match will be live-streamed on the Disney+ Hotstar App. You can also watch it live on the Star Sports Network.
Thunder didn’t get the best of starts to its campaign as it received a crushing defeat at the hands of the Hurricanes in their opening game. However, these are still early days in the tournament and the team will hope to bounce back.
Sydney Thunder has a strong opening pair in the form of Chamari Athapaththu and Georgia Voll. The duo is known for its aggressive brand of batting and if one of them gets going, Thunder can expect plenty of runs during the Powerplay.
The middle order is made up of experienced batters like Phoebe Litchfield, Anika Learoyd, Georgia Adams, and Tahlia Wilson. However, the team does lack depth in its batting and has a long tail. The bowlers did a decent job in the previous match and will hope to do the same here as well.
Shabnim Ismail and Sammy Jo-Johnson are likely to begin with the new ball while Samantha Bates will lead the spin department.
The Hobart Hurricanes, powered by a brilliant performance of its bowlers, made a winning start to their season. The win not only earned them two points but they also enjoy the best NRR among all teams.
Hobart’s strength comes from the team’s plenty of all-rounders. Nicola Carey scored a half-century in the previous game and also picked up a wicket. Similarly, the likes of Heather Graham, Chloe Tryon, and Kathryn Bryce are all more than capable of contributing with the bat as well as the ball.
The opening pair of Lizelle Lee and Danielle Wyatt got a good start but wasn’t able to convert it into a big knock. Hobart also has Tabatha Saville batting lower down the order and she can play the role of a finisher.
Coming to the bowling, the spinners led by Molly Strano, Lauren Smith, Heather Graham, and Chloe Tryon picked up 8 wickets between them. The seam department does seem a bit understaffed with Kathryn Bryce being the only front-line seamer.
The team winning the toss will likely opt to bowl first.
The pitch at the North Sydney Oval is balanced during the first half of the match. The seamers will get a lot of help with the new ball. The pitch is flat and has a covering of grass that allows for seam movement. However, as the ball gets older, batting becomes easier.
A score of around 160 is a par score at this venue. The pitch evens out a lot during the second inning.
The weather is likely to be pleasant with temperatures of around 20 degrees. There might be some drizzle that could interrupt the game.
Hobart put up an excellent performance in the previous match, particularly in the bowling department. We expect them to build up on those positives and play some good cricket yet again. Sydney Thunder did show some glimpses of its full potential and as it returns on home turf they will put up a good fight.
