Brisbane Heat W to win the match 1.793
Brisbane will look to extend its winning momentum as it returns home in the ongoing season of the WBBL. They will take on the Melbourne Renegades on Wednesday at the Allan Border Field.
The two teams have faced each other in 18 games. Brisbane has won 10 of those games while the Renegades won 8.
This match will be live-streamed on the Disney+ Hotstar App. You can also watch it live on the Star Sports Network.
Brisbane Heat made a winning start to their campaign by defeating the Adelaide Strikers in the season-opener on Saturday. They will now look to keep the momentum going and strengthen their place in the top half of the table.
The bowlers did an excellent job restricting Adelaide’s strong batting line-up to a modest total on a good batting surface. The spinners, Jess Jonassen and Charli Knott kept a tight leash during the middle overs, drying up the runs.
Shikha Pandey was the pick of the bowlers as she picked up 2 wickets and was ably supported by Nicola Hancock. In addition, the hosts can employ the services of all-rounders like Siena Ginger, Nadine de Klerk, and Grace Parsons should the need arise.
Coming to the batting, Knott and Jess Jonassen were once again the top performers as they put up a 57-run partnership to lead their team to an easy win. The top order consists of Grace Harris, Georgia Redmayne, and Lauren Winfield-Hill, all of whom are capable of scoring quick runs during the Powerplay.
The Melbourne Renegades’ poor form from the last season seems to have extended to the new season as well. Despite putting up a big total, the team faced a defeat in its opening fixture. Nevertheless, these are early days in the tournament and there is plenty of time to catch up.
While Courtney Webb and Emma de Broughe started off well with the bat, it was Georgia Wareham who carried forward the scoring rate and helped the team put up a huge total. The Renegades have plenty of depth in their batting thanks to the presence of Deandra Dottin, Naomi Stalenberg, Alice Capsey, and Sophie Molineux.
It was the bowling that let the team down in the previous game and they will need to work harder in that department. The seamers, Linsey Smith, Deandra Dottin, and Sarah Coyte went wicketless and were unable to put pressure early in the game.
The spinners picked up all the wickets to fall but were quite expensive. The visitors will have to improve their bowling if they want a shot at winning this game.
The team winning the toss will likely opt to bowl first.
The pitch at the Allan Border Field is one of the better venues to bat on during the WBBL. The average first-inning score here in past WBBL matches is around 170. The seamers will get some help early on as the new ball swings around and there is some movement off the seam as well. However, as the ball gets older, batting becomes easier.
The weather here is expected to be cloudy with temperatures of around 22 degrees.
Brisbane Heat put up a clinical performance in its season-opener. They have a strong batting unit with plenty of all-rounders who can also contribute with the ball. The Renegades’ bowlers weren’t in the best of forms in the previous game and that could be a cause of concern for the team.
