Captain S Abishiek is one run away from 450 runs in the league. He will know that his strike rate needs to get better though if his side is to have a chance of doing something special. Hari Nishaanth and Nidhish Rajagopal have shown glimpses of class throughout the TNPL.
Together they have almost 2500 TNPL runs and 14 half-centuries. Nidhish's match-winning 60 off 41 balls against Madurai Panthers steered the chase. Gloveman R Kavin has been dependable behind and in front of the crease when he hit 48 runs unbeaten in his previous innings. Rajendran Vivek is another quality player to keep your eyes on with over 1000 runs and a handy 11 wickets in the league.
All-rounder Sunny Sandhu brings his full all-round brilliance to the fore with 331 runs, including two half-centuries, and 26 wickets. Mohammed Mohammed was instrumental with the ball in the previous match, picking two for 27 in four overs to apply pressure on Madurai Panthers. ME Yazh Arun Mozhi, though less prominent, has chipped in with ten wickets in a shorter career.
Veteran medium-pacer Rahil Shah has some commanding credentials in Tamil Nadu’s premier T20 competition. The 39-year-old bowler has 70 wickets to show off. Ajith Ram and M Poiyamozhi should emerge as another two of the Spartans’ leading wicket-takers. Between them, they boast of more than 100 wickets in the Tamil Nadu tournament.

The best decision at the toss has become obvious with teams collecting victories left, right and centre by chasing. There has started to become a trend of winning the toss equals winning the game.
Moderate scores and second-innings chases have been the order of the day on this ground. The impact of the dew in the night games has been significant. The team batting second has almost got a guaranteed win in front of them if they bat smartly. The pacers have tended to get the better of the batters more so than the spinners. The dry conditions have aided spin bowling at times though. Salem chased a target of 165 in their previous match.
There is a 45 percent chance of rain on matchday and is likely to be telling. Temperatures will feel warm and humid in almost tropical conditions.
This fixture has become a bottom of the table clash with the winner claiming bragging rights of not finishing stone last. Both teams will be eager to not just go through the motions again and potentially throw a cat among the pigeons for the race to the play-off places. The visiting team have the slightly better track record recently.
