The West Indian opening pair got the team off to a flying start in the last game, and both players are in good form. On the other hand, Reeza Hendricks seems to be struggling a bit at the moment.
Joseph is in good form of late. He has picked up at least 2 wickets in 4 of his last 6 innings and was the top bowler for the team twice. We are therefore backing him to bowl well in this match.
South Africa will be looking to confirm its place in the semi-finals as it faces the West Indies in North Sound on Sunday. This is a must-win for both teams with the winner qualifying for the semi-final and the loser going back home.
The two teams have faced each other in 22 matches to date. Both teams are equally poised with 11 wins each.
This match can be live-streamed on the Disney+ Hotstar App or can be watched live on the Star Sports Network.
After losing their first Super 8 fixture, the co-hosts bounced back in style on Friday as they defeated the USA in a clinical win, which not only gave them two important points but also boosted their NRR.
Shai Hope was in prime form as he slammed an unbeaten 82 from just 39 deliveries. His coming back to the opening slot will be a big relief for West Indies, as Brandon King wasn’t consistent. Nicholas Pooran still remains the top run-getter of the tournament with 227 runs. he has also hit the most sixes in the tournament and will be the major wicket that South Africa is after.
While Rovman Powell, Sherfane Rutherford, and Andre Russell have chipped in with a couple of good knocks, more will be expected from them as we near the business end. the West Indies wants them to play at a quick strike-rate and prioritize boundaries rather than looking to stay at the wicket.
The bowling from the West Indies has been outstanding. Alzarri Joseph has picked up 11 wickets so far and has received excellent support from both, the spinners as well as the seamers.
The West Indies will go into this match very confident. They know they can beat South Africa and have done so many times in the past. It is all about showing up on the big day.
After winning back-to-back matches in the Super 8 stage, South Africa already has one foot in the semifinals. A win here will definitely take them through.
The Proteas continued their unbeaten run on Friday where they went past England in a last-over thriller. However, the team’s performance was far from perfect and there are some issues that they will need to iron out. While Quinton de Kock has played some impressive knocks, his opening partner Reeza Hendricks has been struggling to convert his starts into big innings. His strike rate is also a big concern.
Similarly, the likes of Aiden Markram and Marco Jansen have been very inconsistent with the bat. Therefore, a lot will depend on the likes of David Miller, Heinrich Klaasen, and Tristan Stubbs. On paper, this middle order has the experience and the power to come good in a clutch situation. Aiden Markram, in particular, is the player that we are looking at to make a big contribution in this match.
Anrich Nortje is the top performer with the ball with 11 wickets. He will lead the pace attack along with Kagiso Rabada and Ottneil Baartman. Keshav Maharaj bowled a brilliant spell in the last game and will continue to be the specialist spinner on the team.
The team winning the toss will likely opt to bowl first.
The surface at North Sound has been a bit inconsistent as there have been a few low-scoring as well as a couple of high-scoring encounters as well. The pitch is firm and offers plenty of bounce. There is very little moisture in the wicket and the ball will spin throughout the game.
A score of around 170 will be competitive.
The temperature will likely remain around 28 degrees.
While both teams have done well in this tournament, we feel that the West Indies have an edge here. South Africa, despite winning all its matches, hasn’t appeared confident on the field and they might just crumble against the host’s strong bowling.
Bet on West Indies to win.
