Hasaranga has bowled well in recent matches, picking up at least 2 wickets in 3 of his last 4 T20 internationals. As the pitch at Lauderhill does favor the spinners, Hasaranga is likely to bowl a good spell.
3 of the last 5 T20s played at Lauderhill have seen at least 15 wickets fall. While Nepal’s batting isn’t the strongest, Sri Lanka too has struggled with the bat and we can expect plenty of wickets.
Sri Lanka will be desperate for a win as it faces Nepal in a crucial Group D fixture in the ongoing T20 World Cup. The match will be played at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium in Lauderhill, Florida.
This is the first time that both teams will be facing each other in a T20 international.
This match will be live-streamed on the Disney+ Hotstar App or watched live on the Star Sports Network.
Sri Lanka will be very disappointed with the way it has played in the first two matches of this season. They have lost both of them and are placed at the bottom of the Group D table. It must now win both the remaining games to remain in the race for the knockouts.
Opener Pathum Nissanka played an excellent knock of 47 runs in the last game but received no support at the other end. Despite boasting of a strong batting line-up consisting of hard hitters like Kusal Mendis, Kamindu Mendis, and Charith Asalanka, Sri Lanka hasn’t been able to cross the 125-run mark in both its outings.
The failure of all-rounders to score runs in death overs has also hurt the team.
The bowlers, barring Nuwan Thushara and Wanindu Hasaranga haven’t fared much better either. Maheesh Theekshana is wicketless in 2 games, while Matheesha Pathirana and Dasun Shanaka have managed to pick up only 1 wicket each.
Nepal was outclassed by the Netherlands in its opening fixture as it faced a crushing 6-wicket defeat. They must now bring out their A-game as they face a much more formidable opponent, at least on paper.
Barring the batting performance of skipper Rohit Paudel, there weren’t many positives for the team last week. Kushal Bhurtel and Aasif Sheikh will have to give the team a brisk start and set the base for a big score. The middle order has some experienced players like Kushal Malla and Dipendra Singh Airee who will be joined by the newcomer Anil Sah, while all-rounders Sompal Kami, Karan KC, and Gulsan Jha add depth to the batting.
While Nepal has plenty of variety in the seam department like Abinash Bohara, Sompal Kami, and Karan KC, the team is sorely missing the services of its best spinner, Sandeep Lamichanne.
The team winning the toss will likely opt to bat first.
The pitch at Lauderhill in Florida favors the batsmen early on in the match. The ball comes onto the bat thanks to the good amount of pace and bounce.
The team batting first will aim for the 170-run mark. However, as the match progresses, the surface slows down, favoring the spinners.
The weather in Lauderhill is likely to be overcast throughout the day and we can expect some interruptions due to rain.
While Sri Lanka has struggled in both of its opening fixtures, the match against Nepal provides them with the perfect opportunity to bounce back. Nepal doesn’t have much experience playing against Sri Lanka and is likely to struggle.
Bet on Sri Lanka to win.
