The pitch in New York isn’t the easiest to bat on. In the 6 matches played here during this tournament, only one batsman has managed to cross the 55-run mark. We are unlikely to see anyone in this match, especially if Canada bat first.
Babar and Rizwan are two of the best batsmen in the Pakistan team. They have scored an aggregate of 2546 runs as partners at an average of 48.96 and have put together 5 partnerships of 50+ runs in their last 10 innings. With such a mediocre bowling attack of the opposition, it is worth risking a punt on them.
After suffering back-to-back defeats, Pakistan will be fighting for survival as it takes on Canada on Tuesday. The match will be played at the Nassau County International Stadium in New York.
The two teams have faced each other just once and that match was won by Pakistan.
This match will be broadcast live on Star Sports Network. One can also stream it on Disney+ Hotstar.
After being stunned by the USA in the season opener, Pakistan suffered a heartbreaking loss against India on Sunday. They are now placed 4th on the Group A table and must win this match to remain alive in the competition.
Pakistan's batting hasn’t been up to the mark in this tournament. While Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan have got off to decent starts, the team needs at least one of them to play a big knock. Also, the opening pair doesn’t have the best strike rate in this tournament, and that has added pressure on an already underperforming middle order.
The lack of batting depth has also hurt Pakistan. Iftikhar Ahmed, Shadab Khan, and Imad Wasim are the only batsmen in the middle order but are in poor form at the moment.
The bowlers have fared comparatively better. Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf have picked up 4 wickets each, while Mohammad Amir has 3. The team however lacks a solid spin attack.
You would think that Pakistan has a bowling attack that will blow away the Canadian team, especially on a tricky wicket, but with Pakistan you never know how it might sabotage itself.
Canada threw up a surprise on Friday by defeating Ireland, marking its first-ever win in the T20 World Cups. The team currently sits 3rd on the points table and will once again look to create an upset.
It was a solid batting effort from Nicholas Kirton and Shreyas Movva as they stitched together a 75-run partnership for the 5th wicket to take Canada to a match-winning total. Kirton is also the leading run-getter for the team in this tournament.
The duo, along with opener Navneet Dhaliwal, will hold the key for the team. The seam attack consists of Jeremy Gordon, Kaleem Sana, and Dillon Heyliger but they lack the bite and experience of playing on the big stage.
Similarly, the spinners too haven’t been able to make much of an impact.
The team winning the toss will likely opt to bat first.
While the pitch at New York does seem to have improved compared to what it was during the first game, it is still pretty inconsistent in terms of its behavior. The odd ball will keep low, while the ball nips sharply when it hits a crack. The batsmen will have to select their shots carefully. The new ball also swings around.
Chasing anything over 120 will be challenging.
The weather is likely to be cloudy with temperatures of over 22 degrees.
Despite suffering a couple of losses, we think that Pakistan has the ability to bounce back. This match against one of the weakest opponents in the group provides them with the perfect opportunity to do so.
Bet on Pakistan to win.
