Boult has been the leading wicket-taker for New Zealand in this tournament. He has picked up at least 2 wickets in each of his 3 outings so far. With such lucrative odds, backing him is a good idea.
The batting from both sides has been very ordinary in this tournament. None of the batsmen from either side has been able to cross the 50-run mark so far. As this match is being played on a difficult track, we are unlikely to see a big score from any of them.
New Zealand will be looking for an honorable exit from the ongoing T20 World Cup as it faces Papua New Guinea for its final match on Monday. The two teams will face off at the Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad.
This is the first time that both teams will be facing each other in a T20 international.
This match will be live-streamed on the Disney+ Hotstar App. One can also watch it on the Star Sports Network.
New Zealand will be thoroughly disappointed with the way things panned out in this tournament. They couldn’t recover from the back-to-back losses against Afghanistan and the West Indies in their first two games and as a result, have failed to progress from the initial stages for the first time in a decade.
The batting has been one of the failing points for the Black Caps in this tournament. Despite having some of the best batsmen in this format, including Kane Williamson, Devon Conway, Daryl Mitchell, and Finn Allen, New Zealand has been unable to put up a big score so far.
Glenn Phillips is the leading run-scorer for the team and is averaging 29 in 3 innings. The all-rounders, James Neesham and Mitchell Santner too have been unremarkable. The bowlers have fared comparatively better. Trent Boult is the leading wicket-taker for the team with 7 wickets and has received support from Tim Southee and Lockie Ferguson.
Santner is likely to be the only full-time spinner on the team.
While no one expected PNG to win any matches, the team would have hoped to play better than what they have so far. Nevertheless, this World Cup has been a good exposure for them and they will look to build up on the positives going ahead.
Kiplin Doriga and Sese Bau have been the most consistent batsmen for PNG, scoring 66 and 55 runs respectively. However, they will look for better support from the other players, especially from the opening pair of Assad Vala and Tony Ura.
PNG has been unable to cross the 100-run mark in each of their last two outings, and that speaks volumes about the poor batting. Coming to the bowling, Alei Nao and Norman Vanua are likely to open the bowling with the new ball and have picked up 7 wickets between them.
Vala will lead the spin attack.
The team winning the toss will likely opt to bowl first.
The pitch at the Brian Lara Stadium has been inconsistent. The surface here is usually on the dry side but there are some patches of grass near the good length area. The ball moves around when bowlers hit the right areas, causing trouble for the batsmen.
The spinners will get some turn throughout the course of the match. Anything over 150 will be tricky to chase. The weather is likely to be overcast and humid and there is a forecast of a few showers interrupting the game.
Despite putting up a couple of below-par performances, we think that New Zealand should have no problems winning this match.
