The pitch at the Kensington Oval isn’t the easiest to bat on. As both teams batting isn’t the strongest, we feel that it’s unlikely to get to see a big over. The odds are quite attractive and worth the risk.
Trumpelmann was in top form during the last match as he picked up 4 wickets for just 21 runs. He is in good form of late and has picked up at least 2 wickets in 5 of his last 9 T20 internationals. We are therefore expecting a good spell from him.
Namibia will be looking to extend its lead at the top of the Group B table as it faces Scotland on Thursday. The match will be played at the Kensington Oval in Barbados.
The two teams had faced each other thrice prior to this match, and each of those matches was won by Namibia.
This match can be live-streamed on the Disney+ Hotstar App or can be watched live on the Star Sports Network.
Namibia scored a thrilling win over Oman in their opening fixture, as they defeated the opponents in a Super Over.
While they did score two important points, there are a few issues that the team needs to address going forward. The batting wasn’t up to the mark for Namibia and that almost cost them the match. Barring Jan Frylinck and Niko Davin, none of the batsmen were able to get going.
There are some seasoned campaigners in the top and middle order including JJ Smit, Zane Green, and Michael Van Lingen. The team will need at least one of them to showcase their big-hitting skills if they want to post a big total.
Gerhard Erasmus and David Weise are the two all-rounders who hold the key for Namibia. Weise put in an excellent performance during the Super Over with both bat and ball. His experience is invaluable and Namibia will turn to him in pressure situations throughout this T20 World Cup campaign.
He will likely open the attack with the new ball alongside Ruben Trumpelmann, while Bernard Scholtz and Erasmus will feature in the spin attack.
Namibia has an excellent record against Scotland in T20 cricket and that is something that will give it a lot of confidence going into this contest.
Scotland's opening fixture against England was washed out due to rain, allowing them to share the spoils with the formidable opponent. They will now hope to win here and build up on that bit of good furtune.
Before rain played spoilsport, openers George Munsey and Michael Jones appeared to be in fine touch as they put up an unbeaten partnership of 90 runs in just 10 overs. Such a big partnership and that too against a formidable pace attack of England would have provided a big boost to the team’s confidence.
With experienced players like Richie Berrington, Michael Leask, and Brandon McMullen coming in lower down the order, Scotland will fancy its chances of putting up a big total. We believe that Scotland has one of the best batting lineups amongst the associate teams.
They will be challanged by quality spin but they do have the experience needed to succeed at this level, thanks to the cricket that most of the Scottish players play in the English league.
The bowling unit does seem a bit lacking in quality and that could potentially cost the team some runs. Mark Watt will be the spin-enforcer for Scotland bowling in the powerplay and often at the death. Sole, Currie, and Wheal will be the three other bowlers that lead the charge for Scotland.
Look for a lot of cutters and changes of pace from all of them.
The team winning the toss will likely opt to bat first.
The pitch at the Kensington Oval is firm with a covering of dry grass. The ball comes nicely onto the bat and the batsmen will be able to play their shots. That said, the new ball does nip around a bit and the bowlers can expect some help.
The spinners will come into action as the ball gets older. A score of around 170 will be a competitive score.
We are backing Namibia to win this match. They showed that the team can perform even under pressure situations and the win would have given a big boost to their confidence. Scotland is known to spring up surprises and we can expect a close contest between the two teams but history has shown that Namibia has had the better of Scotland for quite some time now.
Bet on Namibia to win.
