JP Kotze and Malan Kruger have been in good form in recent games and have put up consecutive 50+ partnerships in the last two matches. On the other hand, Oman lacks a stable opening pair.
There have been 19 scores of 58+ runs in 23 games at the Kensington Oval. As the pitch provides the batsmen plenty of opportunities to score, we are expecting at least one batsman to play a big inning.
Namibia will kick off its T20 World Cup campaign on Monday as they face Oman at the Kensington Oval in Barbados.
The two teams have faced each other in 6 matches to date. Namibia has won 4 of those games, while Oman has won 2.
This match can be live-streamed on the Disney+ Hotstar App or watched live on the Star Sports Network.
Namibia was the top team in the Africa Regionals Qualifier and earned its 3rd consecutive qualification to the T20 World Cup event.
While its recent form hasn’t been the best, this match provides Namibia a perfect opportunity to make a winning start to its campaign. JP Kotze and Malan Kruger make up for a strong opening pair and their performance will hold the key for the team.
While there are quite a few all-rounders in the Namibian squad, skipper Gerhard Erasmus and David Weise are the best among them. Both of them have a lot of experience and we believe that Wiese, in particular, with his success playing T20 cricket aroudn the world, will contribute in all departments of the game.
Erasmus will join Bernard Scholtz in the spin department, While Ruben Trumpelmann, Ben Shikongo, and Tangeni Lungameni will feature in the pace department.
Namibia is not a team to be taken lightly and always seems to raise its game in the big tournaments.
After failing to qualify for the 2022 edition of the T20 World Cup, Oman made a strong comeback by winning the Asia qualifier. They followed it up with an excellent performance in the ACC Premier Cup and finished as the Runner-up.
Oman boasts of a strong batting line-up led by its captain Aqib Ilyas. He has scored 364 runs in this calendar year at an average of 33.90. He has the support of Kashyap Prajapati, Khalid Kail, and Naseem Khushi at the top of the order.
Oman has a couple of all-rounders playing in the middle order among which Zeeshan Maqsood and Mehran Khan will be the key.
Coming to the bowling, Fayyaz Butt and Bilal Khan are likely to start the attack with the new ball along with Kaleemullah. Aqib Ilyas is the lead spinner alongside Shakeel Ahmed.
The conditions may actually suit Oman as the spinners are expected to play a big role. While Oman has struggled to get big scores, it has shown the ability to get aroud 14-150 consistently.
The team winning the toss will likely opt to bat first.
The Kensington Oval offers a good batting surface early on in the game. The pitch is firm and flat and offers a good amount of pace and bounce. The ball comes nicely onto the bat and playing shots will be easy. A score of around 180 will be a par score.
As the game progresses, the pitch gets a bit slower and the spinners might get some turn.
The weather is likely to remain overcast throughout the day and there may be some interruptions due to rain.
Both teams have played well to qualify for the World Cup and there is no clear favorite to win this match. However, looking at the records, we feel that Namibia has a stronger squad.
Bet on Namibia to win.
