West Indies has batted well in this tournament. As the pitch allows the batsmen to play their shots and with such a quick outfield, we are bound to see plenty of fours in this match.
Pooran was in excellent form in the last game as he scored 98 runs. He has a good record against England and scored a half-century against them the last time he faced them on this ground. We are backing form with this one!
We are now past the initial stages in the ongoing T20 World Cup and have reached the Super 8 stage, where the hosts West Indies will face off against England on Wednesday at the Daren Sammy Stadium in Gros Islet.
The two teams have faced each other in 29 matches to date. West Indies has won 17 of those games, while England has managed to win 12.
This match can be live-streamed on the Disney+ Hotstar App or can be watched live on the Star Sports Network.
The defending champions barely made it to the Super 8 and will hope to make a fresh start this week.
England's batting has been ordinary, to say the least. The big guns, including Jos Buttler, Johnny Bairstow, and Harry Brook have failed to fire so far, and as a result, the team has failed to put up big scores.
The absence of Ben Stokes seems to be hurting the middle order as well because the two all-rounders, Moeen Ali and Liam Livingstone haven’t made a meaningful contribution with the bat. There were a few positive signs in the match against Namibia but we don't think that is enough to really trust the England batting so far.
The approach from the batters has been a bit erratic and they have not timed their risk-taking well.
The inconsistencies continue in the bowling unit as well. While Adil Rashid and Jofra Archer have bowled a couple of good spells, the bowlers need to be more accurate with their line and length. We have seen England struggle to contain runs against the likes of Scotland and it is definitely going to have a much tougher task on its hand in this match against the West Indies.
The bookmakers have England as the favorite but we don't agree with that assessment.
West Indies is in red-hot form in this tournament and enter this stage undefeated. Their latest win came against Afghanistan, whom they defeated by 104 runs.
The opening pair of Johnson Charles and Brandon King hasn’t been in the best of forms so far but they did manage to get off to a rapid start in their previous match. As the team starts facing stiff opponents, they must shoulder more responsibilities going ahead and look to add more consistency as well.
The middle order has fared much better. Nicholas Pooran slammed 98 runs in just 53 deliveries in the last game and has been supported by Andre Russell and Sherfane Rutherford. In addition, the team will rely on the services of Shai Hope and Rovman Powell to give them a big finish.
The West Indies lineup has the power and the experience needed to attack at all stages of the game.
Coming to the bowling, the spinners, Akeal Hosein and Gudakesh Motie have done a fantastic job, picking up 16 wickets between them. Alzarri Joseph will lead the seam department. He has 9 wickets against his name. Once again, Andre Russell is a very important poece of the puzzle and bowls some crucial overs in each match.
The team winning the toss will likely opt to bat first. 52% of the T20 matches played at this venue have been won by the team that has batted first. That suggests that the toss is not going to play a big factor.
The pitch at the Daren Sammy Stadium favors the batsmen early on in the match. The ball comes onto the bat nicely and the batsmen can go through their shots. The team batting first will aim for over 180 runs. However, as the game progresses, the ball starts gripping the surface and it becomes a bit two-paced.
The average first inning score is 165 at the venue and 145 is the lowest defended total here.
The weather will be warm and humid with temperatures of around 28 degrees.
The West Indian team comes into this match on the back of some real momentum. They have most of their big guns firing and the bowling is also doing quite well. England, on the other hand, has looked quite beatable and has struggled against some teams it was expected to dominate.
Bet on the West Indies to win.
