New Zealand To Win, 1.50
New Zealand Women have a more all-round side while the Sri Lankan Women depend heavily on their skipper
The Sri Lankan bowling is much weaker
New Zealand is playing in home conditions and has a far more skilled side
None of the batters from either team has scored a fifty in their last three games. Even the New Zealand batters who have won their last three games have won the matches due to team efforts. So, no-one might get a fifty in this contest.
Several New Zealand batters are doing well at the same time and are contributing to the score resulting in a series of wins for the team, such as the skipper Suzie Bates, Georgia Plimmer, Maddy Green, Brooke Halliday, and Izzy Sharp. You can expect one of them to emerge as the top batter for this encounter.
As expected, the New Zealand Women wrapped up the ODI series against Sri Lankan Women 2-0 on the Sri Lankan Women's tour of New Zealand. One of the games ended in no result. We now move on to the T20I section of this tour. This series’ first game will be held at Hagley Oval in Christchurch on March 14th, 2025. This post will look at the match prediction, match preview, pitch report, and betting tips for this encounter.
The New Zealand Women have played against Sri Lanka Women on fourteen occasions before this in the T20I format. New Zealand Women have won thirteen of these games, and the Lankan Women have managed just a single victory, which came in 2023 in Colombo.
This encounter between New Zealand Women and Sri Lankan Women will be available on TV on Sony Sports TEN Network for Indian cricket lovers. The contest will also be live streamed on the Sony LIV and FanCode apps and websites.
New Zealand Women are going into this contest with four wins in a row in the T20I format. These wins came against Sri Lanka, Pakistan, West Indies, and South Africa Women. They lost a game last October 2024 against the Australian Women.
This, together with the terrific head-to-head record the Kiwi women have against Sri Lankan Women, will make them formidable opponents in this contest. They beat South Africa by a comfortable margin of 32 runs in their last T20I encounter.
Suzie Bates will lead the New Zealand batting effort in this contest. The New Zealand skipper has scored 252 runs in her last ten appearances for the Kiwis with an average of 25.2 and a strike rate of 98.43. Georgia Plimmer has also done well, scoring 231 runs from her last ten games with an average of 23.1 and a strike rate of 110.52.
Eden Carson will lead the New Zealand bowling effort in this contest. She has picked up 14 wickets from her previous nine encounters with a strike rate of 15. Rosemary Mair is also in good nick and has collected ten wickets from her previous seven games with a strike rate of 16.2.
Sri Lankan Women have had a wretched time in the middle recently. They have lost all their last five games in the T20I format. To make matters worse, they have a terrible head-to-head record against New Zealand Women. They also lost the ODI series and have yet to register for their first tour win.
They have some good players in the team, such as their skipper Chamari Athapaththu and Harshitha Samarawickrama. But whether they can transcend the talent into wins for the country remains to be seen.
In all formats, the Sri Lankan skipper Chamari Athapaththu leads the batting charge for Sri Lanka Women. In the T20I format, she scored 337 runs in her last eight games, with an average of 56.17 and a strike rate of 129.61. Harshitha Samarawickrama has also scored 309 runs from her previous ten appearances with an average of 44.14 and a strike rate of 120.23.
Kavisha Dilhari will be leading the Lankan bowling charge in this contest. She has picked up nine wickets in her last ten games with a strike rate of 18.66. Udeshika Prabodhani has also picked up eight wickets from her last eight matches with a strike rate of 20.25.
We have seen just a couple of women's T20I games played at Hagley Oval in Christchurch. Both these games have been won by the teams batting first. So, the skipper winning the coin flip might look to bat first and try to raise a huge target.
The wicket at the Hagley Oval will initially favor the fast bowlers, but it will ease into a good batting surface with the ball nicely coming onto the bat. Pacers might get some seam movement from the track initially, but batters are more likely to enjoy the conditions.
It will take a brave man to bet against the New Zealand Women. They are not only playing at home but also have an awesome recent record in this format. They also have a terrific recent record against Sri Lanka Women in T20I format. The New Zealand Women will start as red-hot favorites to win this contest and take an early lead in the T20I series.
NZ-W vs SL-W win percentage is heavily in favor of New Zealand Women, currently at 83%.
