ENG vs SA Betting Tips

South Africa not to lose a wicket in the first over

This is a reasonable option for a bet based on the strategy adopted by the South African opening batters earlier in the innings. South Africa’s opening batting partnership was only broken in the 19th over of the first ODI in this series.

Total fours in the match to be under 50.5

The previous match between England and South Africa was a low-scoring affair where the total number of fours combined reached 35. Both teams have some prevalent batters in their armoury who should find the boundary at will, but some decent bowling conditions make this a sensible bet.

Both teams are in a bit of a rebuilding phase of sorts. Most of England’s players have just returned from the Hundred, potentially feeling much better in tune with a shorter format. South Africa comes to England off the back of a competitive ODI series against Australia.

A win in the first match would have raised South African hopes of another ODI series victory. Can England win this match and actually make it a contest?

ENG vs SA Team Previews

England

Jamie Smith and Ben Duckett will take guard at the top of the order. Joe Root’s class will be a major factor in the 50-over format, but he may suffer to find support around him. Captain Harry Brook will lead by example with his aggressive batting style, but that may only last for a short innings.

Jos Buttler behind the stumps is a masterclass in wicketkeeping, but his batting in the longer white-ball format currently has a lot to be desired. Both Brook and Buttler only have one half-century in ten ODI innings this year.

The middle order boasts young guns Jacob Bethell and Will Jacks. England is blessed to have both players capable of turning the game on its head with their volatile batting and overs of spin, if needed. Their inconsistency is their biggest issue in this format. Together, they could only muster eight runs in the previous match.

Brydon Carse and Jofra Archer will provide firepower with the ball, but both went wicketless in the first game of the series. Adil Rashid’s spin will only keep the opposition honest in suitable conditions. He may need to toil for his wickets. Young Sonny Baker will bring raw pace and enthusiasm, but the amount of pressure on his shoulders is huge after conceding 76 runs in seven overs previously.

England Expected Playing 11

Jamie Smith, Ben Duckett, Joe Root, Harry Brook (c), Jos Buttler (wk), Jacob Bethell, Will Jacks, Brydon Carse, Jofra Archer, Adil Rashid, Sonny Baker

South Africa

South Africa's Proteas will face a tough challenge in away conditions but have stood up to the challenge with a win in the series already. Captain Temba Bavuma will try to lead by example with runs, as he has done in 2025 with four half-centuries in seven innings.

Aiden Markram and Ryan Rickelton will open the innings. The pair rocketed to a 121-run stand in the previous ODI. The middle order of Tony de Zorzi and Tristan Stubbs needs more time in the middle, but each of them have made some reasonable starts in recent ODIs. Dewald Brevis's authoritative batting could make a difference. He walloped 49 runs off 28 balls in the third ODI against Australia.

Keshav Maharaj's spin is the main threat with four wickets in the previous ODI and a player-of-the-series six wickets and 37 runs against Australia. Wiaan Mulder and Corbin Bosch could be the perfect pace combo for English conditions.

Mulder’s three wickets were part of the massacre at Headingley. Nandre Burger and Lungi Ngidi will provide the pace to hit the ground running from the first powerplay. Together, the new-ball bowlers have taken 20 wickets this year in ODIs.

South Africa Expected Playing 11

Aiden Markram, Ryan Rickelton (wk), Temba Bavuma (c), Tony de Zorzi, Tristan Stubbs, Dewald Brevis, Wiaan Mulder, Corbin Bosch, Keshav Maharaj, Nandre Burger, Lungi Ngidi

ENG vs SA Toss Prediction

Both of the England team’s previous two wins before the start of this series came from batting second. South Africa beat England by chasing in this year’s ICC Champions Trophy and the previous game of the series.

Pitch Report and Weather Conditions

For this ODI, the seamers can expect early assistance off the deck, especially if conditions remain damp, cloudy and breezy. However, once the sun starts peeking through and doing its job of hardening the pitch, batters should start to find rhythm and be able to compile meaningful totals. In the previous ODI at Lord’s, England scored 312 for five in a game reduced to 39 overs per side.

There is a 16 percent chance of rain at the time of the match. Most of the rain should precede the game. Throughout the match, it would be fair to expect some sunny intervals and the chance of rain lowering.

ENG vs SA: Who Will Win?

Temba Bavuma will not back down as a captain with his aggressive intent and experience this series. The tourists’ bowlers will be looking to continue tapping into the fragility of the current England batting lineup after collapsing to 131 all out.

Bet on South Africa to win.

ENG vs SA win percentage stands at 58% in favor of ENG.

Todays Match Prediction: South Africa to Win.
