Kagiso Rabada is renowned for his accuracy and ability to pressure batters from the outset. His opening delivery, likely to be a dot, will set a restrictive tone, reflecting the disciplined bowling approach South Africa plans to maintain throughout the match. This would be a decent bet.
Both teams have aggressive opening batters who know how to use the pace of the ball to guide the ball to the boundary or put away the bad ball. The field is also likely to be up, so if the batters can beat the inner ring, they could get high value for their shots. This may be a decent bet to go for.
South Africa to win the match - 1.90
South Africa comes into the match with a well-rounded team that excels in both batting and bowling. Their batting depth gives them a significant advantage, enabling them to post competitive scores or chase down targets. The pace attack, led by Kagiso Rabada and supported by Wiaan Mulder, is expected to exploit the early conditions and challenge the Bangladeshi top-order batting significantly.
Coupled with Keshav Maharaj’s spin, which will be crucial on a pitch that deteriorates as the match progresses, South Africa’s bowling lineup is well-equipped to handle varied conditions.
The last five Test matches between the home side and away side has been convincingly in favour of the tourists. South Africa have won all five of the last five Tests. They won the previous Test in the series by seven wickets and could wrap up the series two-nil with a win here. Bangladesh’s history of never winning a Test series against South Africa is set to continue.
The final Test of the series will not be shown on TV in India. Indian fans can still follow the second Test between Bangladesh and South Africa from Tuesday, 29 October 2024 to Saturday, 2 November 2024 on the FanCode app for the live stream.
Bangladesh’s strategy hinges on their experienced players and promising youngsters. They will also require a complete team performance to stop another Test series loss on home soil. Their most immediate issue that needs fixing will be to put up a tougher score in the first innings after they were rolled for 106 in the first Test.
Mahmudul Hasan Joy is essential for providing a stable start, while Mushfiqur Rahim brings depth and resilience to the middle order. Hasan Joy only managed scores of 30 and 40 in the first Test. He could go bigger with a Test record of one century and four half-centuries in the five-day format.
In Mirpur, Mushfiqur Rahim achieved the milestone of the first Bangladeshi cricketer to score 6000 Test runs.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz, known for his all-round abilities, will be crucial in exploiting the pitch conditions favourable to spinners. It was in the second Bangladesh batting innings where he shone with 97 runs and he is a more than handy off-spinner too.
Taijul Islam will be the key spinner, with expectations to dominate in the later stages of the game. He brought up 200 Test wickets in his previous game.
The team will also rely on the youthful energy of Hasan Mahmud and the consistency of Najmul Hossain Shanto. The 25-year-old Mahmud has one four-wicket haul and two five-wicket hauls in Tests.
Hossain Shanto has an incredible five Test centuries with a highest score of 163 and four Test half-centuries to add to that.
South Africa’s lineup is formidable. The same lineup will also be brimming with confidence ahead of another potential Test series win against Bangladesh. They are halfway there after a seven-wicket win in the first Test.
Kagiso Rabada will lead the pace attack, challenging the Bangladeshi top-order batting from the outset with the new ball. Keshav Maharaj will be pivotal as the match progresses, especially on a surface that aids spin on days three to five.
The bowlers ultimately set up the game for the Proteas in Mirpur. Maharaj took three wickets in each innings. Rabada took three wickets in the first innings which was backed up with six for 46 in the second innings. He also achieved the feat of being the fastest bowler to 300 Test wickets.
Kyle Verreynne and Tony de Zorzi provide solidity and aggression in the batting order, while Ryan Rickelton and Tristan Stubbs add dynamism and flair. The wicketkeeper-batter Verreynne is fresh off a game-defining 114 runs.
De Zorzi, Stubbs and Rickelton all got starts in the form of 30s and 20s in the previous Test match. They will be looking to score bigger in the second dig. Temba Bavuma will not be available to return to the Test side yet.
Wiaan Mulder offers valuable balance with his all-round skills, capable of impacting the game both with the bat and ball. He produced a brilliant display of his all-round abilities when he hit 54 runs while also taking three wickets and one wicket in each innings of game one respectively.
The captain winning the toss will likely choose to bat first to make the most of a fresher pitch and avoid batting last on a deteriorating surface that will favour spinners. Batting first could be a critical advantage in the later stages of the match. The previous toss resulted in Bangladesh wanting to bat first.
The Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium favours spinners, especially from the third day onwards. Expect Taijul Islam and Keshav Maharaj to come into play. The initial days might offer some help to seamers with the new ball likely to swing. After that, the pitch will start to dry out and potentially becoming a fraction slower. South Africa showed in game one that a score of just over 300 would provide a balanced contest.
The weather might be a factor. Conditions will be scorching at over 30 degrees Celsius on each of the five days with a high percentage of humidity. You can expect a full game where the weather is concerned because the chances of rain only vary between two and eight percent over the course of the Test.
South Africa’s balanced team with strong batters accustomed to various conditions and a versatile bowling attack, positions them well to exploit any weaknesses in the Bangladesh squad. Their ability to handle spin and pace, along with solid tactical prowess, makes them favourites.
Consider betting on a player like Kyle Verreynne who has demonstrated consistency and resilience in challenging conditions. The South African batters’ technique against spin will be vital as the pitch wears. Kagiso Rabada is a strong candidate for leading the wicket-taking in the match, particularly given his skill in exploiting any movement off the pitch early in the match.
Investing in these aspects of South Africa's game, especially their strong start if they bat first, could provide fruitful outcomes as they are well-positioned to manage and dominate the variable conditions expected throughout the Test.
Taijul Islam was the one player from Bangladesh who made his presence felt after taking a five-wicket haul in the first innings. His spin-bowling combination with Mehidy Hasan Miraz will be crucial for the home side’s chances.
Bet on South Africa to win the second Test.
