Sunrisers Eastern Cape To Win, 1.99
After a slow start the Sunrisers Eastern Cape have started gaining momentum
SEC won their previous home match at St George’s Park
Aiden Markram is one of the sharpest leaders in T20 cricket. His presence give SEC a big boost.
The Pretoria Capitals opening bowlers could threaten with the new ball in the first over. The Sunrisers may want to start off cautiously to give themselves a chance to explode later. They scored four runs in their opening over of the previous match against Pretoria Capitals.
This may be worth betting on, based on the Sunrisers’ batting struggles at times and a potent Capitals bowling lineup. In their previous game, they only managed three sixes in total.
The hosts finished first on the table in 2024 compared to the visitors who ended in fifth position. With home advantage and the team looking to be on the rise, the Eastern Cape team will put up a strong performance in front of a vibrant crowd. The Capitals have been indifferent with one win, two losses and a couple of no results.
The Sunrisers and Capitals have given the crowds exciting games in the past. The Capitals have won three of the last five matches, including the last two consecutive matches. The Sunrisers Eastern Cape have two wins in the last five matches against the Capitals.
This SA20 match between Sunrisers Eastern Cape and Pretoria Capitals will take place on Wednesday, 22 January 2025 at St George’s Park in Gqeberha. The game will be available to India via the TV broadcast on the Star Sports 2 Network and the live-streaming of the Disney+ Hotstar app.
At the start of the batting lineup are explosive players like David Bedingham and England’s Zak Crawley. Their power-hitting could put the Capitals fast bowlers under pressure in the powerplay. Bedingham blasted his way to 39 off 20 in the previous innings.
Tom Abell is a versatile batter as someone who can build an innings or blast teams away. The English batter has 423 SA20 runs with four half-centuries. The middle order has a largely South African flavour to it with young South African talent Jordan Hermann and skipper Aiden Markram with his all-round leadership, particularly with the bat. He played a captain’s knock with 31 runs unbeaten in the last match.
The team’s all-round strength is bolstered by the towering presence of Marco Jansen with his left-arm pace and batting prowess making him a game-changer. Jansen has 34 SA20 wickets with best bowling figures of five for 30. Wicketkeeper-batter Tristan Stubbs brings flair with his hard-hitting style on his home track.
Liam Dawson and Simon Harmer are both experienced spin bowlers. The spin pair offer control and breakthroughs in the middle overs. The pace department is strengthened by Ottneil Baartman and England’s Richard Gleeson.
They bring accuracy and control to the team. The bowling attack produced a true all-round performance against the Super Giants. Each of Jansen, Gleeson, Baartman and Dawson took two wickets.
At the top of the order, Will Jacks and Rahmanullah Gurbaz promise explosive starts as two exciting young T20 batters. Complementing them is Will Smeed, another overseas cricketer with the ability to clear the ropes at will. He hit a half-century in his previous game.
In the middle order, Kyle Verreynne provides consistency and calmness in the field, while being a batter who thrives on pressure scenarios with the bat. Both Gurbaz and Verreynne scored important scores in the 40s against Royals. The experienced Rilee Rossouw brings leadership as captain and match-winning capabilities with brute power. The Capitals skipper has 386 SA20 runs.
James Neesham adds depth as a powerful all-rounder. Neesham has 226 wickets and 4153 runs in his T20 career. Alongside him in the batting lineup is Marques Ackerman with his aggressive intent.
The Capitals' bowling attack is equally impressive. Senuran Muthusamy’s spin complements a pace unit featuring Migael Pretorius, Eathan Bosch and Tiaan van Vuuren. All bowlers are skilled in executing plans in various conditions. Pretorius has three four-wicket hauls in T20s.
Muthusamy took two wickets against Sunrisers Eastern Cape in the reverse fixture from earlier this season.
Both captains may prefer bowling first. The Sunrisers Eastern Cape won their previous match by chasing. The Pretoria Capitals also won their previous match against the Sunrisers Eastern Cape through chasing.
A fair contest between bat and ball should be expected on the day. Because of its coastal location, the bounce at this venue could be lower and slower than what the Capitals will be used to. Spin could play a role, so it will be up to the batters to rotate strike effectively and put them under pressure.
The seamers will need to be smart with the new ball. In their previous game, the Sunrisers chased a target of 116 against the Durban’s Super Giants in Gqeberha inside the 16th over.
The weather in Gqeberha on matchday will be partly cloudy with moderate to warm temperatures. There is no chance of rain either.
The two teams have shared some amazing games on the field. Both squads are star-studded with players who can take the game away with bat and ball. The Sunrisers have started to string some positive results together after a rocky start. The Capitals, despite a victory against the home team this season already, have struggled for consistency.
Bet on Sunrisers Eastern Cape to win this match.
