While the pitch at Gqeberha isn’t the easiest to bat on, none of the last 6 SA20 matches played here have seen 14 or more wickets fall. We expect that trend to continue.
Markram is among the most consistent batsmen for the Sunrisers. He has scored 627 runs in his career at an average of 33.00. Markram also has an excellent record against Cape Town and has scored 2 half-centuries in his 4 innings against them.
The 3rd edition of the S20 is about to get underway this week as the Sunrisers Eastern Cape take on MI Cape Town at St. George’s Park in Gqeberha.
The two teams have faced each other in 4 matches and Sunrisers have won each of them.
This match will be live-streamed on the Jio Cinema app and Sports 18 Network.
The Sunrisers Eastern Cape are the most successful franchise in SA20 and have won both the seasons played so far.
The team has retained most of its core players and has one of the most balanced squads in the league. Aiden Markram continues to lead the side. Markram is not only a quality all-rounder but his leadership skills are impeccable as well.
Jordan Hermann is likely to retain his place at the top of the order with Zak Crawley joining him. Hermann was in excellent form last season and will hope to give the team a solid start. The middle order has some strong all-rounders like Tom Abell and Marco Jansen, who will join Markram.
The batting unit is further bolstered with the inclusion of David Bendingham. Tristan Stubbs, known for his fluent strokeplay will come in lower down.
Coming to the bowling, Richard Gleeson has been brought in to support Ottneil Baartman and Andile Simelane. Roelof van der Merwe makes a comeback and could play as a spinner.
The MI Cape Town have finished at the bottom of the points table in both editions. As the team begins a fresh journey, Cape Town will hope for a better outcome this time around.
MI Cape Town has splurged plenty of money on Reeza Hendricks to strengthen its top-order batting. Colin Ingram, Rassie van der Dussen, and Dewald Brevis will join him, all of whom are capable of playing the big shots.
Ryan Rickleton, fresh off a brilliant double-century against Pakistan in a Test match, is another player to watch out for. The team will be led by the indomitable Rashid Khan who is not only among the best spinners in the shortest format but is also a handy batsman lower down the order.
Azmatullah Omarzai is another quality all-rounder. The seam attack is pretty strong thanks to Kagiso Rabada, Trent Boult, Nuwan Thushara, and Tristan Luus. Dane Piedt has been picked up as a reserve slow bowler.
The team winning the toss will likely opt to bat first.
The pitch at St. George’s Park is balanced. There is some grass on the surface that helps the seamers get some movement with the new ball. Once the batsmen settle down, playing shots will get easier. However, we are unlikely to see a high-scoring game. Anything over 160 will be tricky to chase.
The weather will be clear with temperatures of around 21 degrees.
We are backing the Sunrisers to win this match. They are among the strongest teams in the league and have an excellent record against Cape Town. The latter will be low on confidence as it heads into this match and will have to come up with something special if they want to win.
Bet on Sunrisers Eastern Cape Town win.
