This would seem highly likely, especially given the odds. The Joburg Super Kings hit a boundary four in their first over of the match against Paarl Royals and it took them five boundary fours before they managed their first boundary six.
This bet is reasonable. The Sunrisers bowlers will try squeeze the run rate to as little as possible in the early overs. The Super Kings struggled to get going in their first three overs against the Paarl Royals with 18 runs and a wicket.
Both teams had the same number of points after five games with ten points each. They were only separated by net run rate. Their head-to-head record would also predict a tight game. On current form, the Sunrisers Eastern Cape looking to be moving upwards.
According to history, these are two teams who will come at each other with equal force. Sunrisers Eastern Cape have won two games against their visitors, including a nine-wicket demolition in the previous contest. The Joburg Super Kings have also won twice. One match was rained out last season.
The Sunrisers Eastern Cape vs Joburg Super Kings SA20 match will be hosted at St George’s Park, Gqeberha on Friday, 24 January 2025. The Indian audience has the Star Sports 2 Network TV broadcast and Disney+ Hotstar app live-streaming available to view the game.
Captain Aiden Markram will take the leadership role on his shoulders. He is a handy off-spin bowler to add to his brute force with the bat. The skipper played a pivotal role in his team’s win over Pretoria Capitals with 68 runs unbeaten in Gqeberha.
Zak Crawley and David Bedingham form a solid opening pair to get the Sunrisers going. Kent’s Crawley has almost 2000 T20 runs. Tom Abell and Jordan Hermann add depth to the batting with their ability to soak up pressure and dictate the pace of the game.
Abell has 429 SA20 runs with four scores of 50-plus. Tristan Stubbs will act as the wicketkeeper, but is largely known for his role as a game-changing middle-order batter.
Marco Jansen’s towering presence may be symbolic for being a giant part of this team with bat and ball. The left-arm fast bowler was impossible to face in his previous game with bowling figures of four for 13 in four overs. The experienced spin duo of Liam Dawson and Simon Harmer will maintain a constant wicket-taking threat after the powerplay. Dawson picked up three key wickets against the Capitals.
The pace attack is lead by Protea Ottneil Baartman and overseas player Richard Gleeson. The pair of pace bowlers will control the game with their accuracy. Gleeson has seven wickets in his last four SA20 matches.
Opening the batting will be Devon Conway with his sharp stroke play and captain Faf du Plessis with his aggressive leadership. Conway has more than 6000 T20 runs in his illustrious career. The middle order is brimming with firepower, spearheaded by Leus du Plooy and wicketkeeper-batter Jonny Bairstow. Yorkshireman Bairstow belted 60 runs in Paarl.
Englishman Moeen Ali brings a dynamic all-round option as a utility batter and clever right-arm off-spinner. Sibonelo Makhanya and Donovan Ferreira offer depth to the batting lineup. Makhanya has four T20 half-centuries. Ferreira is an accomplished finisher with the bat.
He hit 32 runs not out off 19 balls against the Royals to give the impetus that the team needed.
In the bowling department, veterans Imran Tahir and Tabraiz Shamsi form a potent spin duo with the ability to turn the ball both ways. 45-year-old Tahir has ten four-wicket hauls and four five-wicket hauls in T20s.
Hardus Viljoen and Lutho Sipamla provide pace giving their bowling attack a cutting edge. Viljoen took two wickets in his previous game.
The tourists have lost both of their previous two SA20 matches when batting first. They could be looking to bat second. The Sunrisers also might not hesitate to chase if they win the toss.
The St George’s Park in Gqeberha should offer an exciting balance between bat and ball. The seam bowlers will be in the game for the first six overs with a brand-new white ball in hand. The batters will need to assess the situation to keep the scoreboard ticking over.
The spinners may be able to produce wickets on a slowish surface. The Sunrisers Eastern Cape chased a target of 116 inside the 16th over against the Durban’s Super Giants at Gqeberha. A first-innings score exceeding 160 runs will be much more exciting.
Gqeberha will experience partly cloudy, but extremely hot and humid conditions during the match. There is a ten percent chance of rain on Friday.
The tournament is now just over halfway. The Eastern Cape crowd will be behind their team after three consecutive victories. The home side is also playing some entertaining cricket and will be tipped to take this match. The Super Kings have had a rocky time with recent results.
Bet on Sunrisers Eastern Cape to win this match.
