This could be a profitable bet for these odds. With pace and bounce on the Centurion wicket, batters will have run-scoring opportunities afforded to them. The Paarl Royals’ previous match against MI Cape Town had 359 runs across both sides’ innings.
This could be a bet worth going for. With the power-hitters of the Paarl Royals licking their lips to get to Centurion to entertain the crowd with boundaries, this may be a fruitful bet. The Royals hit 18 fours in total against MI Cape Town in Qualifier one.
Expect the two teams to battle this one out for almost the full 40 overs, if not the full 40 overs. The teams were only separated by four points on the table, but current form may even things out. The Royals lost their last game to top-ranked MI Cape Town and Sunrisers Eastern Cape beat fourth-ranked Joburg Super Kings. The Royals have had their moments where they were the log leaders this season. That may give them the edge.
This season both teams have managed a win against the other. The Royals were rampant with a nine-wicket win in the third match of the tournament. The Sunrisers beat a diluted Royals lineup towards the end of the league stage. Sunrisers Eastern Cape beat Paarl Royals twice last season.
Paarl Royals take on Sunrisers Eastern Cape for Qualifier two at SuperSport Park, Centurion on Thursday, 6 February 2025. This penultimate match of the SA20 is available in India on the Star Sports 2 Network and the Disney+ Hotstar app.
The opening batting partnership is young and exciting with left-hander Lhuan-dre Pretorius and Australian right-hander Mitchell Owen. Both are incredibly powerful boundary-hitters in their own right. The powerful Pretorius has hit over 500 T20 runs for the Titans. Rubin Hermann is a promising batter who has shown glimpses of his talent as the tournament has progressed.
The all-rounder department is well-stocked. South African talent Dayyaan Galiem and Sri Lankan prodigy Dunith Wellalage providing crucial middle-order fireworks with the bat and ball. He was the best bowler on Tuesday with bowling figures of two for 23 in four overs.
Captain David Miller will be the backbone of the batting as one of the two key experienced finishers in their batting lineup. The skipper hit a well-worked 45 runs off 26 balls against MI Cape Town.
Veteran Dinesh Karthik adds experience behind the stumps and is a pivotal player to navigate high-pressure chases towards the death overs alongside Miller. He played himself into form with 31 off 28 in his previous SA20 innings.
Andile Phehlukwayo is a valuable seam-bowling all-rounder as a bowler who has a knack for taking wickets at key times. The spin attack is formidable with Afghanistan’s Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Protea Bjorn Fortuin bringing variety as a right-arm mystery spinner and left-arm orthodox respectively.
Left-arm spinner Fortuin has over 30 SA20 wickets. Ur Rahman has taken 14 wickets this season while doing that at an economy rate of 6.50. Rising pace sensation Kwena Maphaka rounds off the attack with his express pace. His pace and bounce will feel ugly to face as a batter.
Aiden Markram is arguably the Sunrisers Eastern Cape’s most valuable player as captain, a hard-hitting middle order batter and part-time off-spinner. He hit a match-defining 62 runs unbeaten off 40 balls in the Eliminator.
David Bedingham and Tony de Zorzi bring aggression and South African flavour to the powerplay. Bedingham has eight half-centuries in T20 cricket. De Zorzi is well-versed in how to play at SuperSport Park, with the Titans being his domestic team. Youngster Jordan Hermann will be an exciting watch when he follows the openers.
England’s Tom Abell adds reliability and experience to the middle order as someone who has been part of both Sunrisers title-winning teams. The X-factor comes from Tristan Stubbs. The wicketkeeper-batter can turn games around in the death overs.
Stubbs has over 2500 runs with 11 half-centuries in T20s. Marco Jansen is a vital all-rounder for his left-arm pace bowling and handy contributions with the bat. The tall left-armer has four wickets in two matches against the Royals in 2025.
The overseas bowling contingent includes Craig Overton as a seam-bowling all-rounder and Richard Gleeson as one of the death-over specialists with raw pace. Overton delivered a vital spell under pressure with bowling figures of two for 20 in four overs against Joburg Super Kings. Liam Dawson adds another spin option from a different angle alongside Markram.
The English spinner offers Markram control to work with from one end. Dawson has over 2800 runs and over 230 wickets in his experienced T20 career. Speedster Ottneil Baartman will be crucial with the new ball alongside a dangerous seam attack also featuring Jansen and Gleeson.
The right-arm fast bowler has taken as many as 40 wickets in his SA20 career.
The previous toss at Centurion was won by the Pretoria Capitals who elected to field first. Although their decision did not pay off in that match, that may still be the recommended decision. Both captains in this instance could want to bowl first too.
SuperSport Park is renowned for its fast and bouncy pitch which should be no different in the second Qualifier. The pacers will have assistance, but the batters will be able to cash in with using the pace of the ball to get it to the boundary.
The spinners may struggle to be effective on this pitch with the ball more likely to skid on than turn. Paarl Royals chased a target of 213 against Pretoria Capitals in Centurion.
Thursday temperatures in Centurion will be extremely hot with humidity to add to that. The issues may come from the 40 percent chance of rain at the start of the match, which then increases further into the night.
Paarl Royals have arguably been one of the top two sides throughout this season. The Royals have also experienced beating the Sunrisers this tournament already to give them an advantage. We believe the superior batting lineup of the Royals will carry them through.
Bet on Paarl Royals to win this match.
