The Royals will come out with a strong opening batting partnership, but the quality of the Pretoria Capitals opening bowlers should not be understated. Lhuan-dre Pretorius fell first ball to the bowling of Will Jacks when the teams last met.
This could be well worth betting on when considering the slog fest that the teams had against each other previously. When the Royals and Capitals met in Centurion, the team from Paarl hit 20 boundary fours.
When the teams met at SuperSport Park the match featured more than 400 runs. That may not be the case in Paarl, but there should still be an entertaining game in store for different reasons. The Royals gave the Capitals a brutal reminder of their strength while playing in Pretoria. The Royals will look to flex their muscle again in front of a lively Paarl crowd.
The Pretoria Capitals won both of the first two games they played against the Paarl Royals in the SA20. The Paarl Royals have come back resoundingly to win the next three encounters in a row, including an eight-wicket away victory in 2025.
This SA20 match between Paarl Royals and Pretoria Capitals will take place on Saturday, 25 January 2025 at Boland Park, Paarl. In India, the TV broadcast of the Star Sports 2 Network and the live-stream of the Disney+ Hotstar app will be where to view the game.
Local sensation Lhuan-dre Pretorius and international superstar Joe Root will take on the new ball with ferocity. Pretorius has more than 250 runs this season.
Rubin Hermann will follow in the assault during and after the powerplay. Mitchell van Buuren provides extra firepower in the middle overs. Both Hermann and van Buuren hit scores in the 40s against Durban’s Super Giants.
Captain David Miller and wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik will see the team over the line as two experienced heads in the death overs of the batting innings. Miller has four centuries in T20 cricket. Dayyaan Galiem is a valuable all-rounder who Miller can turn to in the crunch moments.
Eshan Malinga's pace and variation will be vital in the death overs. The Sri Lankan fast bowler has 15 T20 wickets. Keith Dudgeon adds depth to the fast-bowling stocks. The spin department is bolstered by the experienced Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Bjorn Fortuin.
The Afghan spinner took two wickets in his previous match. Fortuin, on the other hand, was economical while picking up a stick of his own.
The dynamic duo of Will Jacks and Rahmanullah Gurbaz will set the tone with innovative shot-making and aggressive intent. Jacks has four centuries and 33 half-centuries in T20s. He chipped in with two wickets against the Sunrisers too.
Kyle Verreynne is a reliable wicketkeeper-batter who will look to keep the score ticking over with constant strike rotation. He has one century and one half-century in the SA20. Captain Rilee Rossouw is an experienced batter who look to attack the bowling from the moment he walks to the crease.
Marques Ackerman and emerging talent Keagan Lion-Cachet add valuable depth to lengthen the batting lineup. Lion-Cachet top-scored for the Capitals in the previous game with 28 runs.
All-rounders James Neesham and Senuran Muthusamy bring versatility with both bat and ball. They are valuable left-handed power-hitters and bring important pace and spin bowling skills. The spin duo of Muthusamy and Kyle Simmonds ensure the team is equipped to exploit the slower conditions in Paarl.
All-rounder Muthusamy’s best bowling figures in the SA20 are three for 12. Seamers Eathan Bosch and Jason Behrendorff will lead the charge with the new ball and containing runs at the back of the innings. Bosch was the standout bowler in the previous game with three wickets.
Paarl Royals and Pretoria Capitals have never locked horns in a day game yet. Four of their five matches have been won by the side batting first. The day conditions could also point to batting first being the best option for both captains.
The surface at Boland Park should be hard and dry. The batters may find batting at its easiest in the first innings. As the pitch gets used throughout the game, natural wear and tear may mean that the pitch could start to break up. The ball could start to turn and grip for the spinners.
The pacers may only be effective for a few overs at the start. In the previous day game of the tournament, Durban’s Super Giants scored 115 for eight in 20 overs in the first innings.
Paarl will give the players some extreme temperatures to manage on matchday. Temperatures are expected to get as high as 36 degrees Celsius during the day on top of the humidity. There is no chance of rain either.
The Paarl Royals have played some brilliant cricket this season as the top-ranked team after six games. Their form has been outstanding and they are still unbeaten at home. The Pretoria Capitals will have a tall task ahead of them. The juggernaut of the Royals could be too much to handle for the visiting Capitals, particularly at home.
Bet on Paarl Royals to win this match.
