Joburg Super Kings seem heavily dependent on the opening pair to score runs. An early couple of wickets leaves them very vulnerable.
While the pitch at Boland Park does allow the batsmen to score runs, they must settle down before they can start playing the big shots. Going after a quality bowling attack won’t be easy. Therefore, while we may see some big overs, it is unlikely that more than 20 runs will be scored in a single over.
Lhuan-dre Pretorius is the leading run-scorer of this season and has scored 206 runs at an average of 51.50. He has scored at least 26 runs in 3 of his last 4 innings, including 2 half-centuries. Seeing his good form we expect another good knock from him.
The Paarl Royals will try to move to the top of the points table as they host the Joburg Super Kings in the ongoing SA20 league. The match will be played on Monday at the Boland Park in Paarl.
The two teams have faced each other in 4 completed matches. The Paarl Royals are the dominant side with 3 wins while the Super Kings have won only one.
This match can be watched live on Disney+ Hotstar App, Star Sports Network, and Sports 18 Network.
The Paarl Royals have played well this year and have won 3 of their 4 matches. They are currently 2nd on the points table and a win here will take them to the top.
The Royals’ batting has been their biggest strength in this edition. Lhuan-dre Pretorius and Joe Root have been in excellent form and are the top two run-getters of the tournament. They have scored two half-centuries each and if they continue playing in the same manner, the Royals could post another big total.
Rubin Hermann, making his SA20 debut this year, scored a brilliant half-century on Saturday and could be a big asset for the team going forward. With players like David Miller, Mitchell vs Buuren, and Dinesh Karthik coming in lower down the order, the Royals have plenty of depth in their batting.
Mujeeb Ur Rahman has been pretty consistent with the ball and is the leading wicket-taker of the tournament with 7 wickets. He remains the team’s only full-time spinner.
The pace department has a good mix of youth and experience thanks to the presence of Lungi Ngidi, Kwena Maphaka, Eshan Malinga, and Dayyaan Galiem.
After an excellent start to their campaign, the Joburg Super Kings suffered their first defeat of the season on Saturday as they faced a 7-wicket defeat at the hands of MI Cape Town.
Faf du Plessis scored a brilliant half-century in that match, albeit for a losing cause. He continues to open the batting for the team with Devon Conway. The latter has some good starts but the team will want him to convert those starts into big scores. Leus du Plooy, Johnny Bairstow, and Donovan Ferreira will follow them in the middle order.
While all of them are quite experienced in the shortest format, they are yet to showcase their full potential. Coming to the all-rounders, David Weise is the joint-highest wicket-taker for the team with 4 wickets but is yet to make a meaningful contribution with the bat.
In the absence of an injured Gerald Coetzee, Matheesha Pathirana will start the proceedings with the new ball with Evan Jones. The Super Kings have a lot of options in the spin department thanks to the presence of Imran Tahir, Moeen Ali, and Tabraiz Shamsi.
The team winning the toss will likely opt to bowl first.
While the pitch at Paarl is good to bat on, it isn’t the easiest venue to play the big shots. The seamers need to bowl a tight line and length as any loose deliveries could be dispatched for runs. However, the spinners can expect plenty of help from the surface as the ball turns quite a bit.
Batting under the lights gets better and the team batting first will look to score around 170 runs to give their bowlers a good chance at defending.
The weather in Paarl will remain clear with temperatures of under 25 degrees.
Both teams have played well so far and there is little separating the two in form. While no team has a clear advantage, the Paarl Royals have a slight edge in this contest due to an in-form batting line-up and a well-balanced bowling attack.
Bet on the Paarl Royals to win.
