The visiting team are power-packed with supreme batting depth. They feature players like Dewald Brevis who play domestic cricket at SuperSport Park too. In the previous head-to-head between the teams in Centurion, MI Cape Town slammed 20 sixes.
The Capitals opening batting pair may look to get on the front foot early against MI Cape Town. The powerful overseas duo will not shy away from going over the top early. The hosts scored 11 runs in their first over of the previous match against MI Cape Town at Centurion.
The Pretoria Capitals will be desperately needing a win, especially considering they will be playing at home. They are close to being knocked out, but could put themselves back in the race with a positive result. MI Cape Town have been among the top teams this tournament and could show Pretoria the reasons why.
The home side have largely had the better results over MI Cape Town in the SA20. Of the four matches between Pretoria and Cape Town, the team from Pretoria have won three matches and the team from Cape Town have won once.
This SA20 match between Pretoria Capitals and MI Cape Town at SuperSport Park, Centurion will be held on Friday, 31 January 2025. The Star Sports 2 Network and Disney+ Hotstar app offer the TV broadcast and live-streaming respectively in India.
Leading the charge is explosive English opener Will Jacks. The attacking batter will set the tone at the top. The Englishman has over 5000 T20 runs. Partnering him is the talented Will Smeed. He is another young English sensation known for his fearless approach in T20 cricket.
South African keeper and Pretoria Capitals captain Kyle Verreynne provides stability in the middle order with his versatile stroke play and sharp glovework behind the wickets. The wicketkeeper-batter slammed a century against MI Cape Town in Centurion last season.
The domestic star Marques Ackerman and Australian finisher Ashton Turner add depth and firepower to the batting lineup in the middle order. Ackerman blasted his way to 39 runs off 22 balls against Joburg Super Kings. Rising star Keagan Lion-Cachet has had some notable contributions in his start to SA20 cricket.
In the all-round department, Senuran Muthusamy adds spin and control with ball and bat. Australian pacer Tom Rogers is new to the squad and eager to impress since joining this year’s SA20. The Australian seamer has 78 T20 wickets. Migael Pretorius forms part of a lethal pace attack in Pretoria. He took three wickets against Joburg Super Kings.
Seam-bowling all-rounder Eathan Bosch and emerging quick Gideon Peters round out a well-balanced attack. The seamers will want to make the most of their new ball exploits to contribute with wickets in the powerplay. Peters and Muthusamy each took two wickets in the previous SA20 match at SuperSport Park.
At the top are the experienced Protea pair of Rassie van der Dussen and Ryan Rickelton with the perfect blend of stability and firepower. They hit an unbeaten century opening partnership against Sunrisers Eastern Cape to see MI Cape Town home by ten wickets.
Van der Dussen hit 48 runs not out and Rickelton hit 59 runs not out. Another cool and calm customer in Reeza Hendricks follows them. The consistent run-scorer has amassed over 7000 T20 runs. The middle order is packed with experience in the form of Colin Ingram as a steady presence. The left-hander has a T20 high score of 127 not out.
Young gun Dewald Brevis will deliver with explosive boundary-hitting.
All-rounder George Linde offers crucial balance with his left-arm spin and handy batting. His variety of skills allows him to float up and down the order in the batting and bowling lineups. Linde has almost 300 runs and almost 20 wickets in the SA20. Delano Potgieter adds depth with his finishing ability in batting and bowling.
In the bowling department, Corbin Bosch is a promising seamer to complementing the team’s world-class pace duo of South African Kagiso Rabada and New Zealander Trent Boult. Bosch was the player-of-the-match in his side’s previous game at Newlands with bowling figures of four for 19.
Protea Rabada took two wickets in the previous match for MI Cape Town. Left-hander Boult has three four-wicket hauls in T20s. Leading the side is the magician himself, Rashid Khan, whose world-class leg-spin and leadership skills continue to make MI Cape Town a serious title contender.
Leg-spinner Khan has four T20 five-wicket hauls.
Both captains may be somewhat undecided at the toss because previous tosses and results have shown that teams can win by either batting or bowling first. The previous match between was won by the Pretoria Capitals chasing. That may be to go-to option for this toss.
The SuperSport Park pitch in Centurion is known for its pace and bounce. The early swing and seam with the new ball should make the pitch a haven for fast bowlers. The pitch tends to flatten out as the game progresses and the swing and seam starts to wear off. Batters can score freely and post competitive totals if they can get through the powerplay with minimal damage. The previous match-up between the Capitals and MI Cape Town in Pretoria featured more than 450 runs in the game.
The weather on matchday in Centurion will be partly cloudy. Temperatures will be soaring into the territory of 30 degrees Celsius, but should only be slightly humid. There is a five percent chance of rain during the evening.
Pretoria Capitals are not out of the hunt for the play-offs yet. They will need a home victory though, otherwise, it could be the end of their 2025 campaign. MI Cape Town has been fantastic this year compared to previous years. Their higher ranking on the table this year could be proven justifiable with a victory while in Pretoria.
Bet on MI Cape Town to win this match.
