Ryan Rickelton and Rassie van der Dussen are both experienced players in South African domestic T20 cricket. The pair have grown up playing domestic cricket for the Lions at the Wanderers, which is only a stone’s throw away from Centurion. They will be extremely familiar with batting conditions in the Highveld.
This bet would be recommended for the rewards it could bring from these odds. MI Cape Town only managed a single run off Bjorn Fortuin in the first over of their previous match. The opening batters have tended to start slowly in the first couple of overs before coming to life as the game moves along.
MI Cape Town have been a dominant force in this year’s competition. Their fortunes in 2025 have been drastically different to those of previous seasons. This year could be their year. The Sunrisers are the only team to have won back-to-back titles. That experience will count for something.
In the past five matches between MI Cape Town and Sunrisers Eastern Cape, it has been a tale of two halves. Sunrisers Eastern Cape won three consecutive matches before MI Cape Town won both encounters in 2025.
This year’s SA20 Final will take place at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg on Saturday, 8 February 2025. MI Cape Town and Sunrisers Eastern Cape will compete for the 2025 SA20 title. Catch every ball in India on the Star Sports 2 Network and the Disney+ Hotstar app.
The team are safeguarded by their mighty top three batters in this year’s SA20. Ryan Rickelton has formed some explosive partnerships with fellow Lion Rassie van der Dussen. The left-hand/right-hand batting combination will make the opening bowlers think about their lines.
Ryan Rickelton and Rassie van der Dussen made scores of 44 and 40 in Qualifier one respectively. Together with Reeza Hendricks, the trio have been the backbone of the batting lineup.
Dewald Brevis has been someone who the team can trust to give them a burst of runs at a clip. The young South African proved his power with 44 runs not out off 30 balls in his previous innings. Sediqullah Atal has given the team some handy knocks with the bat. The Afghan has proven that the depth of this year’s MI Cape Town squad is almost unmatched compared to the other squads.
All-rounders George Linde and Delano Potgieter provide balance, with each of them contributing with match-winning performances with both bat and ball. Linde has both 319 runs and 22 wickets in his SA20 career. Potgieter’s unbeaten 17-ball 32 in the playoffs underscores his impact.
Skipper Rashid Khan has taken the team to new heights this season by guiding them to their first year of SA20 knockout cricket. His impact with the ball should not be understated either. The Afghan leg-spinner has taken 11 wickets in this year’s SA20.
South African pace spearhead Kagiso Rabada and former Black Cap Trent Boult have formed one of the league’s most potent new ball attacks. Their skills in the death overs have also been a sight to behold. Rabada once again showed his worth with bowling figures of two for 18 in four overs in Gqeberha.
Left-armer Boult has five wickets in his previous four SA20 innings. Corbin Bosch was the team’s wildcard pick and has shown his value to the team throughout the season. He has ten wickets, including a four-wicket haul, in this season’s SA20.
Aiden Markram will be the team’s biggest influence on the day. Former U19 World Cup-winning captain Markram will need to be an inspiration for the team in the field and with the bat as well as with the ball if required. Sunrisers’ skipper has 961 runs and 16 wickets in his SA20 career.
Both opening batters of Tony de Zorzi and David Bedingham are in-form and looking to make the most of setting their team up for victory. Left-hander de Zorzi starred in the previous match with 78 runs off 49 balls. Bedingham has 236 runs this tournament. Jordan Hermann offers consistency and excitement following the stroke-playing openers.
The young batter backed up the work of his opener with 69 runs unbeaten to guide the team to the 2025 SA20 Final. England’s Tom Abell adds reliability and adaptability as someone who is experienced from English domestic cricket.
The explosive Tristan Stubbs will be a key finisher. He will want to show the full worth of his price tag. All-rounders Marco Jansen and Beyers Swanepoel bolster both batting depth and bowling options available to captain Markram. Jansen has over 900 runs and over 100 wickets in T20s. Swanepoel is likely to replace Ottneil Baartman after the latter had to leave the field early in Qualifier two.
Liam Dawson is a crafty left-arm spinner who will be a crucial variation to the Sunrisers bowling attack. The pace attack looks formidable in the form of England’s Craig Overton and Richard Gleeson with experience and pace.
Their seam-heavy attack will look to exploit the pace and bounce of the Wanderers. Overton has been picking up wickets at regular intervals with six wickets in his last three SA20 matches.
The toss may not be a major issue for MI Cape Town with the confidence to come out on top however they must. In their previous match, Paarl Royals elected to bowl first. MI Cape Town will be happy to bowl first too, but have won twice at Centurion this season by batting first.
The Wanderers Stadium pitch in Johannesburg is known for its batting-friendly nature with high-scoring games in the past. In the recent games at the ground, the pacers have managed to find assistance by hitting hard lengths.
With the potential for scattered thunderstorms on the day, the balance between bat and ball could be much closer this time around. Durban’s Super Giants scored 173 for four in 20 overs in the previous first innings at Johannesburg.
The weather forecast predicts some warm temperatures on the day accompanied by widely separated thunderstorms. The players may need to prepare for potential rain showers during the match with a 21 percent chance.
MI Cape Town has got stronger and stronger as the tournament has entered its final stages. They will be proud of their season irrespective of what happens on Saturday. They have all their departments covered with plenty of squad depth in each phase of the game. MI Cape Town will walk in as clear favourites.
Bet on MI Cape Town to win this match.
