MI Cape Town are flying high after a superb bonus point victory at Newlands
Ryan Rickelton is in the form of his life and makes the MI Cape Town batting very dangerous
DSG is a dangerous team but we think they may be outclassed in this contest
The left-handed opener has been in sparkling form across all formats. That form may continue when he sets foot in Durban. Rickelton hit an entertaining 89 runs off 39 balls against the Super Kings.
The visitors have plenty off firepower in their batting stocks, meaning they don’t need to get a move on from the word “go”. They started off sedately with eight runs against the Super Kings in the first two overs. This is a decent bet.
MI Cape Town may be starting to hit form at the correct time and look primed to pick up a win on the road. Durban’s Super Giants have produced mixed results this season. They will be looking to turn that around in home conditions.
Durban’s Super Giants have completely dominated against MI Cape Town. The home team have managed four wins out of four versus Cape Town. MI Cape Town have had the better start to this season though.
In India, the two places to catch the action will be on the TV broadcast of the Star Sports 2 Network and the live-streaming of the Disney+ Hotstar app. Durban’s Super Giants host MI Cape Town at Kingsmead, Durban on Tuesday, 21 January 2025.
The experienced Kane Williamson provides stability at the top of the order as a rock in their batting lineup. He played a composed 44-run innings against the Sunrisers Eastern Cape. South African star Quinton de Kock adds explosive firepower since shifting to a middle order role.
Matthew Breetzke and Bryce Parsons bring youthful exuberance and a devastating opening partnership. Breetzke has 604 SA20 runs which includes two half-centuries.
The middle order is packed with all-round potential with Protea Wiaan Mulder and the experienced JJ Smuts. Mulder has the combination of more than 2000 T20 runs and more than 50 T20 wickets. Smuts has more than 500 runs in SA20 cricket with five half-centuries. Heinrich Klaasen offers aggression and reliability as a consistent batter.
Captain Keshav Maharaj will have plenty of bowling options to work with on top of his own dependable bowling. The left-arm spinner took two wickets in his previous game. Afghan sensation Noor Ahmad's crafty left-arm wrist spin will be a treat to watch in Durban.
The pace duo of Naveen-ul-Haq and Junior Dala promises to trouble opponents with variety and pace throughout the innings. The Afghan pacer has six four-wicket hauls and one five-wicket haul in T20 cricket. The South African pacer has 16 SA20 wickets.
Master leg-spinner Rashid Khan is a world-class game-changer. Seasoned pros like Rassie van der Dussen and Ryan Rickelton will provide the building blocks for a team with firepower in its middle order. Van der Dussen scored a valuable 39 runs at Newlands. Rickelton blitzed to 89 runs off only 39 balls in his previous innings.
The youthful energy of Dewald Brevis gives the team fearless stroke play. The experienced Reeza Hendricks is versatile as someone who can rotate strike or up the ante on demand. He guided MI Cape Town over the line against Joburg Super Kings with 34 not out.
He also chipped in with two wickets. Colin Ingram and Delano Potgieter provide depth and finishing prowess in the lower middle order. Ingram has a long list of T20 milestones, including four centuries and 51 half-centuries.
MI Cape Town’s bowling attack is star-studded while covering all bases. The Cape Town bowling lineup is headlined by South African pacer Kagiso Rabada and New Zealand’s Trent Boult. Rabada has nine SA20 wickets in nine games. Boult has 279 T20 career wickets.
Rashid Khan's spin wizardry is supported by George Linde’s variation as a left-arm spinner. Corbin Bosch rounds out a balanced unit with his all-round capabilities.
MI Cape Town won their previous game resoundingly by choosing to chase. They may look to bowl first again. Durban’s Super Giants may also want to bowl first, but will want to improve their run chases in Durban.
The pitch at Kingsmead should offer enough for both bowlers and batters alike. The potentially damp conditions will work in the seamers’ favour if there is movement off the surface. The batters may need to navigate the opening spell of bowling before batting conditions become better. Sunrisers Eastern Cape scored 165 for five in 20 overs in the first innings of the previous Durban SA20 match.
Scattered showers are expected for matchday. There is a 15 percent chance of rain. The climate will be warm and extremely humid.
DSG will be running into a highly confident MI Cape Town unit which chased a target of 173 inside 16 overs. EVen though history is against them, we think MI Cape Town has more momentum coming into this match and some of its players are unstoppable right now. A first win against DSG might be in store.
Bet on MI Cape Town to win this match.
