While the pitch at the Queens Sports Club is balanced, the bowlers, particularly from Zimbabwe, will have to work hard to earn their wickets as they face a strong Pakistani batting unit. Also, only 2 of the last 5 matches played here have seen 16 or more wickets fall.
Muzarabani has a good record in his recent games against Pakistan. He has picked up at least 2 wickets in 2 of his last 3 matches against them, including a fifer in the most recent fixture. As he is the leading fast bowler for Zimbabwe in this match, we are backing Muzarabani to bowl a good spell.
As Pakistan continues its preparation for the upcoming edition of the Champions Trophy, it has embarked on a 2-week to Zimbabwe for a 3-match ODI series that will be followed by 3 T20Is. The first match will be played on Sunday at the Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo.
The two teams have faced each other in 62 matches to date. Pakistan won 54 while Zimbabwe managed to win only 5. Two matches ended without a result while 1 was a tie.
This match will be live-streamed on the FanCode App.
Zimbabwe hasn’t played any ODI since January this year but has been active in the shortest format. They topped the table in the Sub-regional qualifiers and will compete in the Africa Qualifier for the 2026 T20 World Cup.
However, facing a formidable opponent like Pakistan is a different ball game altogether and the hosts will need to be at the top of their game if they want to make a winning start here.
Zimbabwe has selected a well-rounded squad for the ODI series, opting for a mix of experienced as well as young players. The squad will be led by Craig Ervine, who himself is a solid performer with the bat. Joining him in the middle-order will be the experienced duo of Sikander Raza and Sean Williams.
These three batsmen hold the key if Zimbabwe wants to post a match-winning total. Joylord Gumbie is likely to retain his place at the top of the order and could be joined by Tadiwanashe Marumani. Zimbabwe has included 3 uncapped players in the squad in the form of Tinotenda Maposa, Tashinga Musekiwa, and Trevor Gwandu.
While Musekiwa is a top-order batsman, Gwandu and Maposa are seamers. Talking about the bowling, Richard Ngarava and Blessing Muzarabani are likely to start the proceedings with the new ball, while Brandon Mavuta is the specialist spinner.
Fresh off its victory in the ODI series against Australia, Pakistan will hope to continue with its winning momentum in Zimbabwe as well.
Pakistan has made a few changes to the squad that won the ODI series in Australia, with the most notable among them being the exclusion of Babar Azam, Shaheen Shah Afridi, and Naseem Shah. Mohammad Rizwan will continue to lead the team and will also be the most important cog in the batting line-up.
Abdullah Shafique and Saim Ayub are likely to open the batting for the team. The squad has quite a few all-rounders, such as Irfan Khan, Aamer Jamal, Salman Agha, and Kamran Ghulam. Haris Rauf and Mohammad Hasnain are almost certain to feature in the playing eleven and could be joined by Shahnawaz Dahani.
The visitors also have two spinners, Abrar Ahmed and uncapped Faisal Akram.
The team winning the toss will likely opt to bowl first.
The pitch at the Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo is a balanced one. The average first-inning score here is around 250, while a score of around 280 can be considered a par score. The toss is unlikely to be a big factor as the pitch plays almost the same throughout the match.
The quicker bowlers can expect good bounce when the ball is new. However, as the ball gets softer, it gets better for the batsmen. The spinners can expect some help as well. The weather will likely be overcast and there are chances of rain.
We can also see a shortened match if the weather gets worse.
Pakistan starts this match as the favorite. They have an excellent record against Zimbabwe and will be high on confidence after the win against Australia earlier this month.
Bet on Pakistan to win.
