Tadiwanashe Marumani has been in excellent form in his recent outings. He has scored 216 runs in his last 5 outings. Seeing his form and the excellent batting conditions, we reckon that Marumani will play a good knock.
As both teams have a strong spin attack, we are expecting quite a few wickets to fall. 4 of the last 5 T20Is played here have seen 14 or more wickets fall and we are expecting a similar trend in this match as well.
Having won the ODI series 3-1, Pakistan will look to gain an early advantage in the shortest format as well as they take on Zimbabwe for the 1st T20I on Sunday. The match will be played at the Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo.
The two teams have faced each other in 18 matches to date. Pakistan won 16 while Zimbabwe managed to win just 2. Both these victories have come in the previous three matches, though.
This match will be live-streamed on the FanCode App.
Zimbabwe won the first ODI In style but wasn’t able to keep the momentum going and eventually lost the series. They will now hope to bounce back in the T20s.
Zimbabwe has made a few changes to the squad that played the ODI series and has gone back to the combination that won them the T20 Sub-regional Qualifiers earlier this year. This means that there will be no place for Craig Ervine and Sean Williams in the 15-member squad. Brian Bennett and Tadiwanashe Marumani are likely to open the batting for the hosts.
Marumani has been excellent in his recent T20 outings and has scored 2 half-centuries in his last 5 matches. The middle order will be made up of Ryan Burl, Sikander Raza, Clive Madande, and Dion Myers, all of whom are quality batsmen.
Raza has been an excellent all-rounder and will lead the spin attack while Blessing Muzarabani, Richard Ngarava, and Trevor Gwandu are the 3 seamers picked up for this series.
The visitors recovered well from their early loss and scored clinical wins in the last two ODIs. While some of the players from that series have been rested, they will still hope to play with the same momentum.
The biggest change in the squad is that Mohammad Rizwan has been rested, and the mantle of captaincy has been passed on to Salman Agha. Saim Ayub and Kamran Ghulam, who both scored centuries in the ODI series, have been rested as well.
Instead, the selectors have opted to give a chance to the youngsters. Omair Yusuf, Tayyab Tahir, Arafat Minhas, Irfan Khan, Qasim Akram, and Jahandad Khan all have limited international exposure and will get a chance to showcase their batting skills.
Haseebullah Khan is likely to be the first-choice wicket-keeper in the playing XI. The seam attack on the other hand is pretty solid thanks to the presence of Mohammad Hasnain and Haris Rauf.
They will be joined by Abbas Afridi. Sufiyan Muqeem is the specialist spinner on the squad.
The team winning the toss will likely opt to bowl first.
The pitch at the Queens Club is usually good to bat on. The average first-inning score here is around 155. The seamers usually have a tough time at this venue and will have to work hard to earn their wickets. The surface is flat and dry, offering the batsmen plenty of opportunities to score runs. The pitch does get a bit slow in the second half, helping the spinners.
The weather at Bulawayo is likely to be clear with temperatures of over 25 degrees.
As Pakistan has a relatively inexperienced squad for this series, it could be a close contest between the two teams. While most betting sites are favoring the visitors at this point, we feel that the hosts could very well spring a surprise like they did in the first ODI.
