Saim Ayub was brilliant in the previous match and almost got to a century. He is full of confidence and seems to like batting on the fast South African pitches.
Rassie van der Dussen is criminally underrated. We bet on him in the previous match and that paid off. We are not changing things this time around either. A fantastic 50 in the previous match showed that he is at his best and could score big once more.
Pakistan has lost the T20 series after suffering defeat in the first two matches but it will still be hoping for a consolation win in the final match. South Africa was professional and almost flawless in the two matches leading up to this one. A number of its new players have started to look at ease on the international stage and we are sure it will not want to ease up at all.
South Africa has won the previous two matches against Pakistan in this series. It also enjoys a healthy advantage overall when it comes to T20 cricket against Pakistan.
South Africa and Pakistan will meet for the third T20I at Wanderers, Johannesburg on Saturday, 14 December 2024. Live stream the match in India on the JioCinema app. The live television broadcast will be on Sports18.
South Africa would have been a bit disappointed at its bowling performance in the previous match. They gave away far too many scoring opportunities to the Pakistani batters, Saim Ayub in particular, and were left chasing a relatively large total.
As things turned out, the South African batters were able to bail out the team and register a comfortable victory.
We have no doubt that the South African batting lineup is better suited to T20 cricket than Pakistan. Players like David Miller, Reeza Hendricks, and Rassie van der Dussen have already played match-winning knocks in this series. You still have Heinrich Klaassen (arguably the most dangerous batter in this format) waiting for his turn!
There is a lot more power in the South African lineup. The presence of all-rounders like George Linde and Donovan Ferreira also ensures that South Africa has the depth to recover against any early loss of wickets. The only risk as a bettor that you need to consider is South Africa resting some of its best players to help develop the youngsters in the squad.
South Africa's bowling unit is not as strong as it usually would be. They are playing some new bowlers that are not as consistent or threatening as the team would have liked. This inexperienced and largely untested bowling attack can be put under pressure, as we have seen in both matches.
What is incredible, though, that even with a second strong bowling attack, South Africa has been able to stop the Pakistani batters from getting to par totals.
Pakistan continues to fumble the T20 format. The entire cricketing world has moved on from blockers and accumulators at the top of the order but Pakistan has two in its top-3. Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam are not the kind of T20 batters that are going to score at a strike rate of 180 or above in most matches.
Saim Ayub, on the other hand, is a breath of fresh air and someone who is built for the modern T20 format. Change does not come easily to Pakistani cricket, though, so we are quite certain both Rizwan and Babar will play in the top-3 of this last match also.
The batting to follow is not the best either. Usman Khan, Tayyab Tahir, and Irfan Khan are promising youngsters but quite frankly speaking, they would have struggled for a place in any other top international team.
Pakistan's batting is a major weakness and it will always struggle against a decent bowling attack.
The area where Pakistan was expected to put up a real fight was the bowling attack. Haris Rauf, Shaheen Afridi, and Jahandad Khan played in the previous match. They looked threatening for a short while but also ended up offering freebies in crunch moments.
Haris Rauf, in particular, seems to be extremely hittable and is being targetted by the South African batters. Still, we would not underestimate the Pakistani bowlers and think they can end up being match winners on their day.
The team that wins the toss is likely to bowl first. Not only is the pitch the fastest at the start of the game, defending the short boundaries at the Wanders can be quite difficult.
The average runs scores at the Wanders is slightly less than SuperSport Park but it is still a high-scoring venue. Something around 180 should be considered the bare minimum that teams batting first will look for. We also think that the spinners will continue to struggle to find any help whatsoever.
There is a slight risk of rain affecting the match.
South Africa has won the first two matches and we don't expect it to lost this one either. Pakistan has had moments where it was competitive but overall, the T20 squad looks vastly outdated and is likely to continue to struggle.
Bet on South Africa to win.
