While both teams are going in with a new opening pair, we feel that Jake Fraser-McGurk and Matthew Short make up for a stronger pair compared to Saim Ayub and Abdullah Shafique. In the previous game as well, the hosts put up a bigger opening partnership and we are backing them to do so again.
The pitch at the Adelaide Oval provides plenty of opportunities for the batsmen to play the big shots once the new ball wears down. Also, the outfield here is pretty fast. With both teams home to some quality batting, we reckon that there will be plenty of boundaries scored here.
Having won the 1st ODI, Australia will look to clinch the 3-match series as it hosts Pakistan for the 2nd game on Friday. The match will be played at the Adelaide Oval.
The two teams have faced each other in 109 matches to date. Australia won 71 while Pakistan won 34. One game ended in a tie while 3 had no result.
This match will be live-streamed on the Disney+ Hotstar App. One can also watch this match live on the Star Sports Network.
Australia continued with its dominance over Pakistan as it made a winning start to this fresh series.
The bowlers set the tone for the hosts as they bowled an excellent line and length throughout the innings. Mitchell Starc was at the top of his game, picking up 3 wickets.
He has received excellent support from Pat Cummins and Sean Abbott and the trio will be eager to exploit the conditions at the Adelaide Oval. In addition, the hosts can employ Aaron Hardie’s services. Adam Zampa bowled well too, picking up 2 wickets.
However, the batting from Australia wasn’t the best and at one point, the team suffered a mini-collapse. Barring Steve Smith and Josh Inglis, the top and middle order seemed to be struggling against Pakistan’s pace attack and the team would hope to improve its performance in that department.
Australia looked a bit rusty but still had enough to win. We think they are only going to get stronger from here on in.
Pakistan put up solid resistance with the ball in the first ODI but missed out on winning the match. While they would want the bowlers to continue doing well, the batting needs some serious workout before the start of this match.
Barring the skipper Mohammad Rizwan, none of the batsmen were able to make an impact on the proceedings. Babar Azam did get a good start but was unable to convert it into a match-winning knock.
Abdullah Shafique and Saim Ayub hope to give the team a better start this time around, while more will be expected from the debutants of the series, Kamran Ghulam and Irfan Khan. The bowlers did well to take the match down the wire. Naseem Shah, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Mohammad Hasnain, and Haris Rauf make up a strong seam attack but the spin department remains understaffed.
Pakistan's batting is its biggest weakness and that is something that cannot be rectified in just a couple of days. A lot depends on Babar Azam who has been in mediocre form to get the bulk of the runs and spend enough time at the crease to support the others.
Pakistan's struggles look set to continue.
The team winning the toss will likely opt to bowl first.
The Adelaide Oval usually offers a balanced surface and we can expect a close contest between the bat and the ball. The new ball tends to swing and the batsmen will have to see it off before they can start playing the big shots. The surface dries out as the match progresses, helping the slower bowlers. A score of around 280 is a par score here.
The weather is likely to be clear with temperatures of Under 20 degrees.
We expect Australia to continue playing well. While their batting wasn’t the best in the previous match, it is just a matter of time before they bounce back. Pakistan will find it difficult to win here.
Bet on Australia to win.
