The pitch at the Narendra Modi Stadium isn’t the easiest to bat on and none of the WODI matches played here have been high-scoring ones. Also, as both teams have a strong bowling attack, we are unlikely to see a big over in this match.
Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma are among India’s most successful and consistent openers in WODI. Together, they scored an aggregate of 872 runs at an average of 40.95, which includes 6 knocks of 50+ runs and a century stand. We are therefore backing them to play well here.
India W to win the match, 1.30
Having won the first ODI, India will look to claim the series as it faces New Zealand W for the second game. It will be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday.
The two teams have faced each other in 55 ODIs to date. New Zealand is the dominant side with 33 wins while India won 21. 1 match ended in a tie.
This match will be live-streamed on the Jio Cinema app. One can also watch it live on the Sports 18 Network.
Team India put up a clinical performance in the first ODI, completely outplaying the opposition and registering a thumping victory. They will now hope to put up a similar performance in this match as well.
Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana will look to give the team a strong start here. Both of them are quality batters and if one of them gets going, India could score big runs during the powerplay. Harmanpreet Kaur missed the previous game due to an injury and it remains to be seen if she will be available for selection here.
In her absence, there will be added responsibility on the likes of Jemimah Rodrigues, Dayalan Hemalatha, and Yastika Bhatia to score runs. Debutants Tejal Hasabnis and Saima Thakor were very impressive as they scored 42 runs and picked up 2 wickets respectively.
Deepti Sharma was brilliant with the bat and the ball. She will be joined by Radha Yadav in the spin department while Renuka Singh Thakur will lead the pace attack.
New Zealand came into this contest on the back of a historic win in the T20 World Cup. However, they appeared a shadow of what they were in the UAE.
While the bowlers did a decent job of limiting the strong Indian batting unit to an under-par score, it was the batting that let them down. The visitors have plenty of good players in the top and middle order, including Suzie Bates, Sophie Devine, Brooke Halliday, and Georgia Plimmer.
While some of them did start off well, they were unable to convert those starts into big innings. The team will also be sweating over the injury that Amelia Kerr picked up during the first innings. While she did come out to bat at number 9, they will want her to be a 100 % fit for this must-win encounter.
Kerr was brilliant with the ball as she picked up 4 wickets and was well-supported by Eden Carson. Jess Kerr and Suzie Bates picked up 4 wickets between them and are likely to start with the new ball.
The team winning the toss will likely opt to bat first.
The pitch at the Narendra Modi is expected to be well-balanced and we will see a good contest between the bat and the ball. The seamers will get some movement with the new ball and the batters will have to be careful while playing the big shots.
While the pitch does get easier to bat as the ball gets older, the spinners can expect some grip and turn throughout the game.
The weather is likely to be clear and warm with temperatures of between 30 and 35 degrees.
We are backing the hosts to win this game. They put up an excellent performance with the bat and the ball and scored a big win in the first game, giving themselves a psychological edge. New Zealand has plenty of problems to iron out before the start of this match.
Bet on India W to win.
