Jaiswal has been one of the most consistent performers from the Indian camp in recent games. He has scored 80 or more runs in 5 of his past 7 outings and we are backing him to play a good knock here.
Rohit Sharma scored a quick 48 in the second inning of the first Test and looked completely in command before getting out. We are backing him to score runs once more in this match.
India to win the match, 1.205
Having lost the first Test match, India will look to level the 3-match series as it faces New Zealand for the 2nd match starting Thursday. The game will be played at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune.
The two teams have faced each other in 63 matches to date. India won 22 of those while New Zealand won 14. 27 games ended in a draw.
This match will be live-streamed on the Jio Cinema App. One can also watch it live on the Sports 18 Network.
India started off the first test match as the overwhelming favorite to win. However, one bad session on the 2nd day cost them the match. Nevertheless, there are quite a few positives that the team will take from that game and put up a better performance here.
Sarfaraz Khan was in red-hot form in the 2nd innings as he scored 150 runs. He has been a prolific scorer in the domestic circuit and is replicating the same on the international stage as well. Sarfaraz is averaging 58.33 in 4 Test matches and has already scored 3 half-centuries and a century.
He, along with Rishabh Pant will play a pivotal role in the middle order. There is a strong chance that Dhruv Jurel may get a chance to play after the injury scare that Pant suffered in the first match.
The form of KL Rahul and Virat Kohli remains a cause of concern for the team. Despite not being in bad form per se, the duo has been unable to convert their starts into big knocks.
Rahul could be replaced by Washington Sundar who has put up good all-round performance in his recent Ranji Trophy outing. Another running concern for the team is the form of Mohammed Siraj. He has managed to pick up only 8 wickets in the last 5 matches despite having favorable conditions. His poor form means that there will be added pressure on Jasprit Bumrah.
The spinners in the team, Kuldeep Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, and Ravichandran Ashwin will need to bowl a better line and length as they were quite expensive in the first match.
The Black Caps will be delighted with the outcome of the first match as they scored a historic win on Indian soil after a gap of 36 years.
Much of the credit for New Zealand’s win goes to Rachin Ravindra, who scored a brilliant century in the first innings. His partnership with Tim Southee helped the visitors gain a massive lead and set the stage for a massive win. Devon Conway was in fine touch as well as he scored a well-made half-century.
His experience of playing in the IPL will come in handy throughout the series. However, the team will need the others including Tom Latham, Tom Blundell, and Daryl Mitchell to play better. Coming to the bowling, the seamers bowled phenomenally in the first innings, picking up all the 10 wickets inside 32 overs and playing a key role.
Matt Henry ended the match with 8 wins and William O’Rourke picked up 7 wickets. They will be joined by Tim Southee. New Zealand will likely continue with Ajaz Patel as the frontline spinner in the team.
The team winning the toss will likely opt to bat first.
The conditions in Pune are likely to be excellent to bat. The previous match played here saw India score 601 runs in the first inning. The surface is flat and hard, with slow pace and low bounce. There isn’t much help for the quicker bowlers and they will have to bowl a good line and length if they want to put the opposition under pressure.
The spinners will get some help, especially on the last two days. The weather is likely to be cloudy however there is no forecast for rain.
While India lost the first match, they are a strong team that has the ability to bounce back. We expect them to play well and turn things around. That said, New Zealand will be buoyed by their recent success and will give a tough fight.
