The opening pair of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma hasn’t been consistent in their recent games. Over the last 7 matches, the duo has managed to cross the 35-run mark just twice during the first innings. With Rohit Sharma, in particular, struggling, we are unlikely to see a big partnership.
Virat Kohli hasn’t been in the best of forms in recent games. His average in the last 5 Test matches is just 27.22. In his previous 9 matches against New Zealand, Kohli has scored 38 or more runs only twice. Seeing his record, we are expecting his poor run to continue.
New Zealand to win the match 4.19
Having already won the series, New Zealand will look to complete a clean sweep as it faces India for the 3rd and final Test match in its ongoing tour. The two teams will clash at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai starting Friday.
The two teams have faced each other in 64 matches to date. India won 22 of those while New Zealand has managed to win 15. 27 matches ended in a draw.
This match will be live-streamed on the Jio Cinema App. You can also watch it live on the Sports 18 Network.
India started this series as the clear favorite to win. However, things have not gone according to the plan for the hosts as they lost their first-ever home series since 2012. The losses have also hurt their prospects of reaching the WTC finals scheduled next year.
One of the biggest concerns for India will be the form of two of its most experienced players, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. The duo has undergone a prolonged lean patch. Kohli has crossed the 50-run mark just once in his last 10 innings, while Rohit Sharma has done so just once in his last 8.
Similarly, the likes of Shubman Gill, Rishabh Pant, and Ravindra Jadeja have been inconsistent with the bat. Washington Sundar was the standout performer for India in Pune as he picked up 11 wickets. He is also an able batsman who adds depth to the batting.
Jasprit Bumrah, who usually bowls well on any surface, went wicketless and so did Akash Deep. India will need to put the two losses behind them and come out with a positive intent if they want to win.
Not even the most ardent Kiwi fan would have expected their team to win its first-ever series in India against a team that has hardly put a foot wrong in the last decade. Now, the visitors will set their eyes on the WTC table and look to climb up the ladder as it gets ready to face England in a home series later next month.
Mitchell Santner was the star of the show as he picked up 13 wickets in the match. He was supported by Ajaz Patel and Glenn Phillips on the other end. The trio will once again play an important role on the spin-friendly wicket at the Wankhede. Tim Southee and William ORourke are likely to retain their spots as the two seamers on the team.
With Kane Williamson set to miss the third match as well, the Black Caps are unlikely to tinker around with their batting line-up as well. Tom Latham struck good form in the previous game and together with Devon Conway will look to give the team a strong start.
Rachin Ravindra, Tom Blundell, Glenn Phillips, and Daryl Mitchell are both capable batsmen in the middle order and will strengthen the batting line-up.
The team winning the toss will likely opt to bat first.
The pitch at the Wankhede Stadium usually favors the batsmen, especially during the first 3 days. While there might be some swing during the first hour, things ease out considerably as the day progresses, allowing the batsmen to play their shots.
The average first-inning score here is around 340. In the last two days, the pitch slows down, aiding the slower bowlers. The weather in Mumbai is likely to be sunny and warm with temperatures remaining over the 30-degree mark.
New Zealand has been brilliant on this tour and fully deserves the series win. We expect them to continue playing well. On the other hand, India will be desperate to prevent a whitewash and should be playing some good cricket as well. However, their batting is a cause of concern and that could once again prove to be an Achilles heel.
