After a brilliant start to their campaign, the San Francisco Unicorns dropped their first match of the season on Saturday as Washington Freedom defeated them by 12 runs. While the Unicorns have already qualified for the playoffs, they would still like to get a couple of wins and cement their place in the top two.

Matthew Short continued with his red-hot form as he scored his fourth consecutive half-century on Saturday, albeit for a losing cause. He will once again be the key for the Unicorns if they want to get a strong start. His role as a batsman is especially important as Finn Allen, who started off well, has had a couple of lean outings recently.

The team is unlikely to make any changes in the middle order. Jake Fraser-McGurk suffered a rare failure but we expect him to bounce back. He will be joined by Sanjay Krishnamurthy, Hassan Khan, Jahmar Hamilton, and Romario Shepherd.

The Unicorns’ two new-ball bowlers, Haris Rauf and Xavier Bartlett have bowled brilliantly and have picked up 31 wickets between them. However, they will need better support from Brody Couch and Liam Plunkett.
