The Hubli Tigers performed exceptionally well in the league stages of the Maharaja Trophy competition this year. They played ten games and won seven of them in addition to beating the table toppers, Mangalore, in the first qualifier. They are going into this contest on the back of four games on the trot in the competition.
One of these wins came against Mangalore Dragons, and it was a convincing victory. In the first qualifier, they played against the Dragons, and the Tigers powered to a score of 210 runs for the loss of just two wickets.
The Hubli bowlers were on the mark during the Mangalore chase and bundled out the Dragons for 100 runs in 16.1 overs. This emphatic victory would have dented the Mangalore psyche a bit. The Hubli skipper Padikkal smashed 99 runs not out in this contest from 64 balls with five sixes and ten fours.

The Mangalore Dragons performed well in the league stage of the competition, winning seven out of their completed ten matches. They collected 15 points as a result of this performance and led the points table. However, they had to face a terrible drubbing at the hands of the second-placed team of Hubli Tigers in the first qualifier of the play-offs.
They will be facing the same opposition again. However, in between, they looked good against Bengaluru Blasters in the second qualifier, winning it by seven wickets.
In this game against Bengaluru, the Mangalore frontline bowling attack, led by Abhilash Shetty and skipper Shreyas Gopal, made early inroads in the Bengaluru innings. Gopal returned with the best figures of three for 30 from his four overs.
Macneil Noronha and Shetty picked up two wickets each. During the Dragons' chase, their opening batter, Lochan Gowda, anchored the innings with 62 runs from 51 balls, and Sharath BR supported him with 43 runs, and Macneil Hadley Noronha with 24 runs.
