The Gulabarga Mystics are one of the most consistent teams in the Maharaja Trophy and have reached the playoffs in all three seasons so far. Last year, they were defeated by Bengaluru Blasters in the semifinals.

There have been a few changes in the squad compared to last season. Devdutt Padikkal, who was their skipper last season, has moved to Hubli. In his absence, R Smaran and Luvnith Sisodia will play an important role in the batting line-up.

The Mangalore Dragons weren’t in the best of form last year and managed to win only one of the 10 matches during the group stages. As a result, they finished at the bottom of the points table and were knocked out for the third consecutive season without reaching the playoffs.

The Dragons have made quite a few changes to the squad during the recent auction. Thippa Reddy comes in from the Hubli Tigers and will join Lochan Gowda and Macneil Noronha in the batting line-up. The other batsmen in the squad include Aneesh KV, Sharath BR, Aadarsh Prajwal, and S Shivaraj.

The Dragons have also brought in Aaditya Nair from the Gulbarga Mystics as an all-rounder in a bid to add depth to the batting. Abhilash Shetty, who was the leading wicket-taker for the team last season, retains his place in the team and will be joined by Kranthi Kumar, who was among the top two wicket-takers of Bangalore last season.

Shreyas Gopal will lead the spin department and will be joined by Sachin Shinde and Paras Arya.
