Overview of the Lanka Premier League (LPL)

The Lanka Premier League uses a similar format to a lot of the world's domestic T20 leagues.

A double round-robin format kicks things off and then the teams go on to the playoffs. The LPL also has some special rules, such as its power-blast overs, in the 16th and 17th overs.

What is the Lanka Premier League Auction?

Prior to each LPL season, a player auction is held - just like in India for the IPL. Teams are given a budget to spend on creating their roster, with some of the best players in the world going under the hammer.

In the 2024 LPL draft, Colombo Strikers bought the Sri Lanka star Matheesha Pathirana for a record price of $120,000, while Afghanistan's Karim Janat cost $80,000 to Dambulla Thunders.

What is the LPL Prize Money?

A $100,000 USD prize money was paid to the Kings when the team won the LPL in 2024.

Second place got $50,000 as a consolation prize, but the prize money for the next LPL season is yet to be confirmed. It will be expected to be higher than the money awarded in 2024.
