Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma are among the most consistent openers this season and have scored 417 runs as a pair at an average of 52.12. On the other hand, LSG has failed to find a good opening pair thus far in the season.
Only 1 of the 4 matches played on this ground this season has seen 13 wickets fall. There is very little help for the bowlers from this surface and therefore we think it is unlikely that we will get to see more wickets.
Travis Head is in fine form this season and is averaging 44.40 in 10 innings. He was the top batsman for SRH in 3 of his last 6 outings and we are backing him to do so again in this match.
The Lucknow Super Giants will be looking to get themselves back in the top 4 as they travel to Hyderabad for a mid-week clash against SRH. The match will be played at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium on Wednesday.
The two teams have faced each other in only 3 matches thus far and each of them was won by LSG.
This match can be live-streamed on the Jio Cinema App or watched live on the Star Sports Network.
The Sunrisers Hyderabad would have wanted to win their last match against the Mumbai Indians to break away from a cluttered mid-table. However, that was not to be and the team finds itself with the same number of points as the LSG and CSK and are currently placed 4th on the table.
It was a familiar SRH script that played out at the Wankhede on Monday as the team got yet another flying start from Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head. Head is the leading run-scorer for the team while Heinrich Klaasen and Sharma have provided excellent support.
However, the middle-order batting remains a big chink in the armor. The likes of Shahbaz Ahmed and Abdul Samad have failed to convert their starts into big innings.
Now, as the law of averages has caughten up and their high-risk approach is resulting in the loss of more wickets, the vulnerable middle order of SRH is becoming a real weakness for the other teams to exploit.
The bowlers, particularly the seamers have performed better in the last couple of games. T Natarajan is the leading wicket-taker with 15 wickets and will lead the attack alongside Bhuvaneshwar Kumar, Pat Cummins, and Jaydev Unadkat.
These bowlers have had the cushion of some excellent scores throughout this season but now that the batters are struggling a bit, the bowlers will have to step up. Things are looking a bit precarious for SRH and they are in danger of letting their season slip away.
The Lucknow Super Giants will be very disappointed with the outcome of their last match. The team was completely outplayed by KKR and suffered its 2nd defeat in the last 3 matches. As a result, the team has dropped down to the 5th spot on the table and their NRR isn’t good either.
While a few batsmen including KL Rahul, Marcus Stoinis, and Nicholas Pooran have played well, the others, particularly those lower down the order have struggled to get going. Ayush Badoni, Deepak Hooda, Krunal Pandya, and Ashton Turner will need to play a bigger role with the bat if LSG wants to get back to winning ways.
These problems are similar to what their opponents are facing. The difference is that LSG may not have the clarity of thought that SRH does and may try to play more conservative cricket. We believe that could be disastrous and take them out of contention even before the match starts.
The inconsistencies continue in the bowling unit as well. While Yash Thakur and Naveen Ul-Haq have picked up 21 wickets between them, they have often been expensive. Also, the form of the spinners, particularly Ravi Bishnoi, isn’t the best.
Krunal Pandya may be one of the bowlers that is called upon in this match by KL Rahul to try and keep the opposition batters honest. His battle with Klaasen might be pivotal.
The team winning the toss will likely opt to bat first. Six out of the previous 10 matches at this venue have been won by the team that has batted first.
The pitch in Hyderabad generally favors the batsmen and that is again what is expected for this match. The team batting first will look to put at least 200 runs on the board (199 is the average winning total at this venue in the previous 10 IPL matches).
The seamers can expect some bounce and swing early on in the match but they will have to be accurate with the line and length. There are plenty of sixes in store if the pitch behaves as it has so far this season.
The weather is likely to be warm and humid.
While there are some flaws in the SRH team, they have performed better compared to the Lucknow Super Giants this season and are likely to end on top in this match. We like their aggressive batting approach, something that should suit them at home, and also think they will be better in a must-win situation than LSG.
Bet on the Sunrisers Hyderabad to win this match.
